📊 What Is Diagonal Growth?
Diagonal growth describes SEO progress that happens across multiple pages and keywords at the same time. Instead of one page gaining most of its visibility, several pages improve for related searches, creating a broader upward trend across your site.
This pattern may appear as gradual movement rather than a single dramatic ranking increase. It can indicate that your content, internal links, technical health, and topical coverage are improving together.
🔍 How to Recognize It
- Several URLs gain impressions or clicks during the same period.
- Related keywords improve across different ranking positions.
- Pages move upward at different speeds rather than following one identical pattern.
- Overall visibility increases even when individual keyword rankings fluctuate.
🛠️ How to Review Diagonal Growth
- Open your project in Search Atlas and review the visibility, impressions, clicks, and ranking trends.
- Compare the current period with a previous period of the same length.
- Group results by landing page, topic, or keyword cluster.
- Look for several pages and related terms showing positive movement together.
- Review the pages with the strongest gains and identify the content or technical changes made during that period.
✅ How to Support Continued Growth
- Keep important pages focused on clear search intent.
- Expand topic coverage where related keywords are missing.
- Strengthen internal links between closely related pages.
- Resolve technical issues that limit crawling, indexing, or page performance.
- Measure trends over several weeks instead of judging progress from daily changes.
⚠️ Why Results May Vary
SEO performance can change because of search demand, competitor activity, algorithm updates, seasonality, and reporting delays. A temporary drop in one keyword does not necessarily mean overall growth has stopped. Evaluate the wider trend across pages, topics, and organic traffic.
