If your Site Audit has flagged hundreds of broken pages, exporting those 404 URLs is the first step toward building a redirect map. This article walks you through locating the correct section in Site Audit, filtering for 404 errors, and downloading the full list.
🔎 Step 1: Open Your Site Audit Project
- In the left sidebar, click OTTO SEO → Site Audit.
- Locate the project tied to your domain and click into it to open the Site Audit dashboard.
- Confirm the audit has finished running. If data is still loading, wait for the progress indicator to complete before proceeding.
⚠️ Step 2: Navigate to the Broken URL Data
The 404 broken page data lives inside the issues or errors section of Site Audit. Look for a section or category related to broken pages or 4xx errors — the exact label may vary depending on your account configuration.
- Inside your Site Audit project, navigate to the section that lists crawl issues or page errors.
- Scroll through or search the issues list to find the category related to broken or unreachable pages (4xx errors).
- Click that issue category to expand the full list of affected URLs.
📥 Step 3: Export the 404 URL List
- Once the broken URL list is visible, look for an Export option associated with the table or list view.
- Click Export to download the list as a CSV file.
- The CSV will include each broken URL, making it straightforward to paste into a redirect mapping spreadsheet.
Note: If you have trouble locating the export option or the list does not appear as expected, try refreshing the page and allowing the audit data to fully load before trying again.
🗂️ Step 4: Use the Exported Data to Map Redirects
Once you have your CSV, you can build your 301 redirect map by matching each broken URL to its correct replacement destination. A few tips to speed up the process:
- Group by URL pattern — URLs that share a common path segment (e.g.,
/blog/old-category/) can often be redirected with a single rule. - Prioritise by traffic — Cross-reference the 404 list with your analytics data to fix your highest-traffic broken pages first.
- Use OTTO SEO — After implementing redirects, re-run the Site Audit to confirm the 404 errors have been resolved.
💡 Tips and Troubleshooting
- If you do not see any broken page issues listed, check that the audit has fully completed. Large sites with hundreds of pages can take several minutes to crawl.
- If you manage multiple sites, make sure you are inside the correct project for the domain you want to fix before exporting.
