🔍 What Is Instant Indexing?

Instant Indexing is a feature available on the Property plan that submits your URLs directly to Google's Indexing API. This signals Google to crawl and index those pages faster than standard organic discovery. However, the term "instant" refers to the speed of the submission request, not a guarantee that Google will index the page immediately after.

⏱️ Why Pages Can Still Take Time to Index

Even after a successful Instant Indexing submission, Google retains full control over when and whether a page is actually indexed. Several factors influence this timeline:

  • Google's crawl queue: Google prioritises pages based on its own internal signals, including your site's crawl budget, domain authority, and historical crawl patterns.
  • Page quality signals: Pages that are thin, duplicated, or have technical issues may be deprioritised or skipped entirely.
  • Site authority: Newer or lower-authority domains typically experience longer indexing delays than established sites.
  • Server response times: If your server is slow or intermittently unavailable, Google may defer crawling.
  • Content freshness signals: Pages that are not frequently updated may receive fewer crawl visits overall.

📅 What Is a Realistic Indexing Timeline?

While Instant Indexing can dramatically reduce the time Google takes to notice a page, it is not a bypass of Google's systems. Here is what most customers experience:

  • Best case: Some pages are crawled and indexed within a few hours of submission.
  • Typical case: Most pages are indexed within 24–72 hours of a successful submission.
  • Longer delays: Pages on newer sites, or those flagged for quality review by Google, may take one to two weeks or longer.

Seeing pages listed as waiting to index after two days is within the normal range and does not indicate a problem with your plan or the submission itself.

✅ How to Check Your Submission Status

You can verify that your URLs were submitted successfully within Search Atlas. A successful submission means the request reached Google — it does not confirm the page has been indexed yet.

To verify actual indexing status, use Google Search Console or run a site: search in Google (e.g., site:yourdomain.com/your-page) to check whether the URL appears in Google's index.

🛠️ Steps to Improve Your Indexing Rate

If pages are consistently slow to index, consider the following actions:

  1. Ensure your pages meet Google's quality guidelines — avoid thin, duplicate, or low-value content.
  2. Improve your site's crawlability — check for crawl errors in Google Search Console and resolve any blocking issues.
  3. Build site authority — earning backlinks and publishing consistent, high-quality content helps Google prioritise your domain over time.
  4. Check server performance — ensure your hosting environment responds reliably and quickly to Googlebot requests.
