๐ What This Issue Looks Like
When you click Add Publication, you may find that the Publication URL field is greyed out, won't let you type, or won't accept pasted text. This is usually caused by something in your browser or by how the URL is entered. It is rarely a problem with your account. The steps below fix most cases.
๐ค Common Causes
- The page did not fully load, so the form is not yet interactive.
- A browser extension, such as an ad blocker, password manager, or autofill tool, is interfering with the form.
- Cached data in your browser is causing the form to behave incorrectly.
- The URL has extra spaces, an unsupported format, or was pasted with hidden characters.
- The form is waiting for another required field to be completed first.
โก Quick Fixes to Try First
- Refresh the page. Close the Add Publication window, reload the page, and open the form again.
- Click directly inside the field. Make sure the cursor is active in the Publication URL box before you type or paste.
- Type the URL instead of pasting it. If pasting does not work, type it manually. If typing does not work, try pasting.
- Check for other required fields. Fill in any other fields in the form, such as the publication name, then return to the URL field.
- Try a private or incognito window. Log in to the platform there and try again. If it works, the cause is likely a browser extension or cached data.
๐ Enter the URL in the Right Format
Even when the field accepts text, an incorrectly formatted URL can be rejected. Follow these tips:
- Include the full address starting with https:// (for example, https://www.yourwebsite.com).
- Remove any spaces before or after the URL.
- Use only the main site address, not a link to a specific page or a link with tracking parameters.
- Check for typos in the domain name.
- If you copied the URL from a document or email, paste it into a plain text editor first, then copy it again to remove hidden formatting.
๐งน Clear Your Browser Cache and Disable Extensions
If the quick fixes did not work, try these steps:
- Clear your browser cache and cookies for the Search Atlas platform, then log in again.
- Temporarily turn off browser extensions, especially ad blockers, autofill tools, and password managers.
- Reload the platform and try adding the publication again.
- If you have turned off extensions and the field still does not work, try a different browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
๐ฑ Check Your Device and Screen
- Use a desktop or laptop computer if you are on a phone or tablet, since some forms are easier to use on a larger screen.
- Make sure your browser is up to date.
- If the form looks cut off, zoom out (Ctrl and minus on Windows, Cmd and minus on Mac) so the whole form is visible.
- Check that your internet connection is stable, then reload the page.
โ Confirm the Site Was Not Already Added
Before trying again, check your existing publications list. If the site is already there, you may not need to add it again. If you need to update it, open the existing entry instead of creating a new one.
