🔍 URL Indexer: Why Your Pages Are Not Indexed Yet (And What Google Actually Controls)

✅ What the URL Indexer does — and doesn't do

The Search Atlas URL Indexer submits your pages to Google's official Indexing API, which signals to Google that a URL is ready to be crawled. This is the fastest official method to request indexing.

However, Google makes the final decision on when and whether to index any page.

🤔 Why your page may not be indexed after submission

  • Content quality — thin, duplicate, or low-value content is often not indexed
  • Crawlability — the page must be accessible to Googlebot (check robots.txt and noindex tags)
  • Domain authority — new or low-authority sites get indexed more slowly
  • Canonical structure — if a page has a canonical tag pointing elsewhere, Google may skip it

⏱️ Realistic indexing timelines

  • High-authority sites: hours to 24 hours after submission
  • Medium-authority sites: 1-4 days
  • New or low-authority sites: 4-14 days, sometimes longer

🔄 If the Indexer shows "Not Indexed" but the page appears in Google

The Indexer's indexation status is refreshed on a periodic cycle (status checks run roughly once per hour), so a recently indexed page can still show as Not Indexed until the next refresh. In some past cases the status was also reported prematurely or pulled from stale API data before a submission had fully finalized, which caused already-indexed URLs to be mislabeled — these reporting issues have since been fixed.

If a page shows Not Indexed in the URL Indexer, confirm the true status in Google Search Console > URL Inspection, which reflects Google's own index. If GSC shows the page as indexed, treat the Indexer status as out of date and allow it to refresh. If submissions appear to never process or trigger indexing at all, this is a separate known issue under review — contact Search Atlas support so your case can be checked.

🚀 How to improve your chances of indexing

  1. Use Google Search Console > URL Inspection to check for crawl or indexing issues
  2. Ensure the page has unique, substantive content
  3. Add the page to your XML sitemap and submit the sitemap in GSC
  4. Build internal links to the page from already-indexed pages
