🧭 Overview
After installing the OTTO SEO Pixel on your Shopify store, you may notice that the platform still shows the pixel as not installed — even though you followed every installation step correctly. This is expected behavior, not an installation error.
During the initial site auditor crawl, pixel status updates are intentionally delayed. The crawl must complete before Search Atlas can confirm and reflect the pixel's active status. This process can take up to 24 hours.
⏳ Why the Delay Happens
When you connect a Shopify store to Search Atlas, the platform automatically triggers a full site audit. The OTTO SEO Pixel status is verified as part of this crawl — it is not checked in real time at the moment of installation. Until the crawl finishes, the pixel status will remain in a pending or uninstalled state in the dashboard, regardless of whether the pixel code is correctly placed on your store.
This is a known, expected part of the onboarding process and does not indicate that anything went wrong during installation.
✅ How to Confirm Your Pixel Is Installed Correctly
Before waiting for the crawl to complete, verify that the pixel was added properly to your Shopify store by checking the following:
- Log in to your Shopify admin panel and go to Online Store → Themes.
- Click Actions → Edit Code on your active theme.
- Open the theme.liquid file and confirm the OTTO SEO Pixel script is present just before the closing tag.
- Save the file if you made any changes.
If the script is present and saved, your installation is complete. No further action is needed — the status in Search Atlas will update automatically once the site audit finishes.
📍 Where to Check Pixel Status in Search Atlas
To monitor your pixel status and audit progress, navigate to OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) using the left sidebar (URL: /seo-automation-v3). Your connected site and its current pixel status are displayed on this page. Once the initial crawl is complete, the status will automatically update to reflect that the pixel is active.
🕐 What to Do While You Wait
The initial site audit typically completes within a few hours but may take up to 24 hours for larger Shopify stores with many pages. During this time:
- Do not reinstall or remove the pixel script — doing so may reset the crawl timer.
- Do not disconnect and reconnect your Shopify store, as this will trigger a new crawl from the beginning.
- Check back on the OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) page after a few hours to see if the status has updated.
🔁 If the Status Has Not Updated After 24 Hours
If more than 24 hours have passed and your pixel status still shows as uninstalled, work through the following checks before reaching out for support:
- Confirm the pixel script is still present in your theme.liquid file — theme updates or app installations can sometimes overwrite customizations.
- Make sure you are checking the correct store — verify the domain shown in the OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) section matches your active Shopify store URL.
- Clear your browser cache and reload the OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) page to rule out a display issue.
- If a theme update was applied after installation, re-add the pixel script to the updated theme and allow another crawl cycle to complete.
