π What βnon-parsable JSONβ means
The Site Auditor reports a non-parsable JSON object when it finds structured data that cannot be read as valid JSON. This usually happens inside a JSON-LD script, marked with application/ld+json. Because the object cannot be read, the auditor may not display the specific schema type or error location.
π§ Locate the affected JSON-LD
- Open the URL listed in the Site Auditor issue.
- View the page source. In most browsers, right-click the page and select View page source.
- Search the source for application/ld+json.
- Review each JSON-LD script on the page. The affected object may be in the page template, a plugin, a tag manager, or custom code.
- Copy each complete JSON-LD block into a JSON validator until you identify the block that returns a parsing error.
π οΈ Validate and identify the error
Paste the complete contents of the JSON-LD script into a trusted JSON validator or code editor. A valid JSON object must use double quotation marks around property names and text values, include commas between properties, and close every brace and bracket.
Check the validatorβs line and column reference. Then compare that location with the source code to find the exact character causing the issue. Common causes include:
- Missing or extra commas
- Unclosed quotation marks, braces, or brackets
- Single quotation marks instead of double quotation marks
- Unescaped quotation marks or special characters in text
- Comments or JavaScript expressions inside the JSON
- Multiple objects combined without a valid array or graph structure
- Template variables that were not replaced with valid values
β Fix and verify the markup
- Update the source that generates the invalid JSON-LD, such as the CMS template, schema plugin, tag manager, or custom script.
- Validate the corrected block again before publishing.
- Clear any site, CDN, or plugin cache.
- Open the affected URL and check the page source to confirm the corrected markup is live.
- Run the Site Auditor scan again. The issue may remain until the auditor recrawls the page.
π If several JSON-LD blocks exist
Test each application/ld+json block separately. One valid block does not make another invalid block parsable. Also check content inserted dynamically after the initial page load, because a plugin or tag manager may add a second JSON-LD object.
