๐ What Is a Payout Discrepancy?
A payout discrepancy happens when the pending amount shown for your published articles is lower than the total you expect. For example, four live articles may add up to $262.50 while the pending balance shows $237. Or two articles at $62.50 each should total $125, but the balance shows $90.
This article explains the most common causes, how to check your numbers, and what to send us if the amounts still do not match.
๐งฉ Common Reasons the Amounts Differ
- Articles not yet counted: An article may be live but not yet reflected in your pending balance. This can happen if it was published recently or is still being verified.
- Different rates per article: Rates can vary by article, site, or agreement. The total you calculated may use a different rate than the one applied.
- Earlier payments: Check whether any articles on your list have already been paid through a previous remittance. Do not include already-paid articles in your expected pending total.
- Rate corrections: A corrected publisher cost can change an unpaid remittance when it is recalculated. Ask support to confirm the amount applied to each article if it differs from your records.
- Articles in different payout periods: Some articles may be grouped into a different payment cycle than the others.
- Changes after publishing: If an article moves or its URL or links change, confirm that the platform has the correct live URL and that the article still passes validation. Ask support to check its payment eligibility; a change does not automatically mean payment is on hold.
- A balance that needs a manual review: Sometimes a pending amount is simply wrong and needs to be corrected by our team.
๐งฎ How to Check Your Numbers Before Contacting Us
A quick check can often solve the issue or speed up the review. Follow these steps:
- List every article you believe should be paid, including its title and live URL.
- Confirm each article is live and accessible at its URL.
- Write down the agreed rate for each article.
- Add the rates together to get your expected total. For example, 2 articles at $62.50 each is $125.
- Subtract the pending amount shown in the platform from your expected total. For example, $125 minus $90 leaves a $35 gap.
- Check whether any listed articles were already paid, whether the applicable publisher rates changed, and whether your selected earnings time filter excludes relevant remittances.
If the gap is still unexplained after these steps, it is worth requesting a review.
โ Quick Self-Check Checklist
- Every article on your list is live and its URL works.
- The rate you used matches your agreement for each article.
- None of the articles included in your expected pending total has already been paid through another remittance.
- No article was changed or republished recently.
- You compared the pending amount with your expected total, not with a past balance.
๐ What to Include When Requesting a Review
The more detail you give us, the faster we can resolve the issue. Please include:
- Article list: The title and live URL for each article in question.
- Rate per article: The amount you expect to be paid for each one.
- Expected total: The sum you calculated, for example $125.
- Pending amount shown: The figure currently displayed, for example $90.
- The difference: The gap between the two amounts, for example $35.
- Screenshot: An image of the pending balance in your account, if possible.
Sending everything in your first message helps us avoid back-and-forth questions and shortens resolution time.
โฑ๏ธ What Happens After You Request a Review
- Our team compares your article list against the records for each article, including status, rate, and any prior payments.
- If the pending amount is incorrect, we correct it to the accurate total.
- If the difference is explained by an adjustment, an earlier payment, or an article status, we tell you exactly why.
- Once the balance is confirmed as correct, the full amount owed is released in the normal payment process.
Please note that the pending amount can only be corrected after the review confirms what is owed. We cannot adjust it based on the expected total alone, so accurate article details are important.
๐ก Tips to Prevent Future Discrepancies
- Keep a simple record of each article, its live URL, and its agreed rate.
- Compare your pending balance against your own records soon after articles go live.
- Avoid changing a live article's URL or status without telling us.
- Report any mismatch as soon as you see it, so it does not carry into the next payment cycle.
- Group multiple affected articles into one request instead of sending separate ones.
