π Overview
When you try to change the price of a publisher website, the Price field is read-only. You submit a Counter Offer instead. If the website still has articles that are not posted, you see: "Cannot accept counteroffer for publication having articles." This article explains why that happens and how a price change actually works.
β Why Does This Error Appear?
Articles already assigned to a publication may still be paid from the publication's current price unless a checkout snapshot locked the payout. To avoid paying a higher rate on those articles, the platform blocks a new Counter Offer while any article that is not yet posted is assigned, and it blocks a price increase while a live-priced open payout or an unposted article remains. Lowering the price is still allowed.
- The publication has one or more articles that are not yet posted, either as the approved publication or as the unapproved publication.
- Those articles do not have their payout locked to a checkout snapshot, so a higher price could change what is paid for them.
- Raising the price now could increase the payout for assigned articles that are not yet posted and for delivered links whose payout is still based on the live price.
π§ How to Update Your Website Price
You can submit a new Counter Offer once no unposted articles remain assigned. The steps below describe what you can and cannot do. They do not guarantee that a higher price will be accepted.
- Open your publisher website listing and review the articles currently assigned to it.
- In the publisher portal, articles are grouped as Awaiting Publication or Published. The internal statuses include waiting for generation, claimable, claimed, received, editor rejected, editor approved, waiting for customer approval, waiting for CSM approval, submitted, and posted.
- Post the articles that are awaiting publication, or reject one if it should not be published. You cannot remove or reassign an article yourself. Articles that are still being written are not available for you to clear.
- Once no unposted articles remain, open the publication from your Publications list. The Price field remains read-only.
- Enter the amount in Counter Offer. The tooltip says: "Submit a counteroffer if you want to change the price for this publication." Save the publication. This submits your offer. It does not change the price until Search Atlas accepts it.
- After you save, the current Price stays the same until the counter-offer is accepted. Refresh the Publications page later and check the Price field to confirm the accepted amount.
π‘ Tips to Avoid This Issue
- Submit a counter-offer before articles are assigned when you can. An accepted increase cannot be raised again for 30 days, and it must stay at or under 2.5 times the site's domain authority.
- Check assigned articles first. Review your website's assignments before editing pricing.
- After an increase is accepted, the price is locked for 30 days. You can still lower it during the lock. Decreases do not start a new lock.
π οΈ Still Seeing the Error?
If unposted articles are gone and you still cannot submit or get a higher price accepted, the remaining block is usually an unpaid payout, the 30-day price lock, or a price above 2.5 times domain authority.
- Refresh the Publications and Articles pages so you are looking at current assignments, then submit the Counter Offer again. Signing in again will not remove the block.
- On the Articles page, confirm that Awaiting Publication has no remaining articles for this website. Also remember that articles still being written can count even though they are not shown there.
- Take note of the exact website name and the price you want to set so our team can review it quickly.
