π Overview
When a blog post is automatically shared to your Google Business Profile (GBP), you may notice that the sentences look run together, with no blank space between paragraphs. This article explains why that happens and what you can do to keep your posts easy to read.
π Why Paragraph Spacing Gets Lost
Your blog and your Google Business Profile handle text differently. Understanding the difference helps explain what you see.
- Blogs use formatting code. Paragraph spacing on a blog page comes from formatting behind the scenes, not from blank lines in the text itself.
- GBP posts are plain text. Google Business Profile posts do not support headings, bold text, or other blog-style formatting. Only the text and simple line breaks carry over.
- Posts are shortened. GBP posts have a character limit, so the blog content is usually condensed into a short summary. During this step, paragraph breaks can be merged into one block of text.
- Google controls the display. How the final post looks on Google Search and Maps is decided by Google, and it can vary by device.
β Tips for Better Readability
While you can't control every detail of how Google displays a post, these habits improve how the text reads once it reaches your profile.
- Keep the opening short. The first few sentences of your blog are the most likely to be used in the GBP post, so make them clear and complete on their own.
- Use short paragraphs. One or two sentences per paragraph keeps the text readable even if spacing is reduced.
- Start with the key message. Put your main point and any call to action near the top of the post.
- Avoid relying on formatting. Do not depend on bold text, bullet lists, or headings to make the post understandable, since they will not show in GBP.
- Write clean sentences. Each sentence should end with proper punctuation so it still reads well if two lines appear close together.
π οΈ How to Check and Adjust Your Post
- Open your Google Business Profile and find the post that was published automatically.
- Check whether the paragraphs appear run together on the live post.
- If you are able to edit the post, add blank lines between paragraphs by pressing Enter twice at the end of each one, then save the change.
- Review the updated post on both desktop and mobile to confirm it looks the way you want.
- For future posts, shorten the opening paragraphs of your blog so the summary that is shared reads clearly.
β οΈ Good to Know
- Changes you make directly to a post in Google Business Profile apply only to that post. They do not change your original blog article.
- Editing your blog after it has been shared will not always update the existing GBP post.
- If a post looks different on different devices, this is usually due to how Google displays text, not an error with your content.
