📋 Overview
If a plan you were subscribed to is retired (deprecated), your account may be automatically moved to a different package. When this happens, you might notice fewer connected OTTO sites, a lower AI credit balance, or an unexpected change to your billing. This article explains why these changes occur and walks you through getting your sites and quotas restored.
🤔 Why This Happens
Search Atlas occasionally retires older subscription packages and replaces them with newer ones. When your previous plan is deprecated, the system migrates your account to a current package. If the new package has different limits than your old one, you may see:
- Fewer OTTO sites: If your old plan allowed more sites than the replacement plan, sites beyond the new limit are deactivated rather than deleted.
- Reduced AI credits: Credit allowances — including your HyperDrive credits and AI generation (AI suggestion) quotas — are tied to your package, so your balance may reset to match the new plan.
- An auto-cancellation or billing change: When the old plan can no longer be billed, the subscription may be cancelled and a new charge created on the replacement plan, which can produce an incorrect or unexpected invoice.
Your data is not lost. Deactivated sites and their historical data remain stored on your account and can be reconnected once your correct quota is restored.
🔍 What to Check First
- Open Top-right avatar → Billing (Billing page) and note your current package name and renewal date.
- Go to OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) and confirm which sites are active versus deactivated.
- Review your AI credit balance on the dashboard.
- Check your most recent invoice for any charge that does not match your expected plan.
Recording these details before you contact support speeds up the restoration process.
🛠️ How to Get Your Quotas Restored
Quota restorations are handled by our support team. Most cases are resolved within one business day once we confirm your previous plan.
1️⃣ Step 1: Gather Your Account Details
- The email address on your Search Atlas account.
- The name of your previous (deprecated) plan, if known.
- The number of OTTO sites and the AI credit amount you had before the change.
- A screenshot of any incorrect invoice.
2️⃣ Step 2: Contact Support
Reach out through the in-app chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type human teammate to be connected with our support team. Include the details from Step 1 and mention that your plan was deprecated. Our team can:
- Reinstate your previous site limit, including any OTTO Sites Top-Ups (formerly OTTO SEO Add-ons) that provided extra sites, or apply an equivalent current plan.
- Reactivate your deactivated OTTO sites without losing data.
- Restore your HyperDrive credits and AI generation quota to the correct level.
- Review and correct any erroneous charge, and issue a refund if you were billed in error.
3️⃣ Step 3: Confirm the Restoration
After support applies the fix, refresh your OTTO dashboard and Top-right corner (avatar) → Billing → Services tab. Your sites should reappear as active and your credit balance should reflect the correct amount. If anything still looks off, reply to the same support thread so we can adjust it.
♻️ Reactivating OTTO Sites
Once your site quota is restored, deactivated sites can be switched back on:
- Open the OTTO dashboard.
- Locate any site marked inactive or paused.
- Select Reactivate to bring the site and its dynamic optimizations back online.
- Verify that the OTTO Pixel is still installed and reporting for each restored site.
🛡️ Avoiding Surprises in the Future
- Watch for plan notices: We notify account owners by email before a package is deprecated. Keep your billing contact up to date.
- Review renewal emails: Confirm the plan name and limits on each renewal so you can flag mismatches early.
- Keep a record of your quotas: Knowing your normal site count and credit allowance makes it easy to spot a change.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Did I lose my site data permanently?
No. Deactivated sites and their data are retained. Reactivation restores them in full.
Will I be refunded for an incorrect charge?
Yes. If you were billed in error due to an automatic plan migration, support will review the invoice and issue a refund or credit.
How long does restoration take?
Most quota and billing corrections are completed within one business day after we confirm your previous plan.
Why was my subscription auto-cancelled?
When a package is retired, the old subscription can no longer renew, so it is cancelled and replaced. This is a system step, not an account closure, and your access remains intact.
My package was cancelled but I never changed anything — is that the same issue?
Not always. Separately from planned deprecations, we identified and fixed a bug where an OTTO Business Package could be cancelled with no action from you and no cancellation event in your account history, removing your OTTO sites and HyperDrive/AI quota while billing continued as scheduled. This issue has been resolved. If you think you were affected — especially if there is no deprecation notice and no cancellation log — contact support so we can restore your sites and quota and correct any charge.
