🗂️ Overview
Search Atlas is built to support agencies managing multiple client websites from a single account. Instead of juggling separate logins, you can organize every client site as its own Project within one account, keeping data, settings, and team access cleanly separated. This article covers account structure, plan considerations, project organization best practices, and the five core SEO pillars you can action directly inside Search Atlas.
🏗️ How Multi-Site Management Works
Each website you manage lives inside a dedicated Project. Projects act as containers — they hold that site's tracked keywords, reports, audits, backlink data, and settings independently from every other client. Nothing bleeds across projects unless you explicitly share it.
To create a new project, go to Left sidebar → Home → Classic and select Create a Project (Home | searchatlas.com). Repeat this step for every client website. You can create and switch between projects at any time from the Home dashboard.
👥 Adding and Managing Team Members
You can invite team members and assign them roles at the account level. Go to Top-right corner (avatar) → Team Members to manage your roster. Available actions include:
- Add member — invite a colleague or client by email.
- Viewer — standard access with limited administrative controls.
- Admin — full account access including billing and settings.
- Deactivate / Activate — suspend or restore access without deleting the user.
Assign the Admin role only to trusted internal teammates. Use the Viewer role for clients or contractors who need visibility into specific work without account-level control.
📋 Plan Limits and Scaling Your Account
The number of projects, tracked keywords, and users available to you depends on your current plan. Before onboarding a new client, confirm your plan allows for an additional project. To review or upgrade your plan, go to Top-right corner (avatar) → Billing → Plans & Top-ups tab and select Manage Subscription or Change Plan. You can also add payment methods here to keep billing uninterrupted as your agency grows.
If you are approaching your project or keyword limit, upgrading your plan before creating new projects prevents data gaps for existing clients.
⚙️ Account-Level vs. Per-Project Settings
It is important to understand which settings apply across your whole account and which apply only to a single project.
- Account-level settings — Team member roles, billing, plan selection, and integrations such as Publisher Exchange apply to the entire account and affect all projects.
- Per-project settings — Target domain, tracked keywords, site audit configuration, competitor tracking, and reporting schedules are set individually inside each project and do not affect other clients.
Always switch to the correct project before making changes to avoid accidentally editing a different client's configuration.
🔍 The 5 Key SEO Pillars and Where to Action Them
Once your projects are structured correctly, Search Atlas gives you dedicated tools for each core area of SEO. Here is how each pillar maps to the platform:
- Technical SEO — Run a site audit from within your project to surface crawl errors, broken links, missing meta tags, slow pages, and indexability issues. Fix flagged items in priority order, as technical health is the foundation everything else builds on.
- Content — Use the Content tools to research topics, audit existing pages for relevance and depth, and optimize on-page elements like headings, word count, and keyword usage. Every content recommendation is scoped to the project's target domain.
- Authority — Authority is built over time through consistent content quality and the credibility signals search engines pick up from your backlink profile and brand mentions. Use Search Atlas to monitor your Domain Rating trend per project.
- Backlinks — Access backlink analysis per project to review your current link profile, identify toxic links, and spot gap opportunities against competitors. To explore link-building opportunities, go to Left sidebar → Authority → Link Building Exchange.
- UX Signals — Search engines factor in how real users experience your pages. Use site audit and page-level data within each project to identify issues that hurt engagement, such as slow load times, poor mobile usability, and high-bounce page structures.
✅ Best Practices for Agency Project Organization
- Name each project clearly using the client's brand name or domain so your team can identify it instantly.
- Set up keyword tracking immediately after creating a project so you establish a baseline before making changes.
- Schedule recurring site audits per project to catch technical regressions early.
- Review your plan limits at Billing → Plans & Top-ups every quarter to ensure you have headroom for new clients.
- Deactivate team members promptly when a client relationship ends to protect account security.
