In some Content Genius V5 articles, image alt text may describe the surrounding section or heading instead of explaining what appears in the image. This can make the text less useful for accessibility and search engines.
🔍 What effective alt text includes
Good alt text briefly describes the image’s meaningful content and purpose. It should help someone understand the image without seeing it.
- Describe the main subject, action, or result shown.
- Use specific, natural language related to the image.
- Keep it concise and avoid unnecessary phrases such as “image of.”
- Do not repeat the article heading or nearby paragraph unless the image directly shows that information.
- For decorative images, use empty alt text when your publishing system supports it.
🛠️ Review an article in Content Genius
- Open Content in the left sidebar.
- Select Content Genius.
- Open an existing article or choose an action such as Generate, Write with AI in Bulk, Write it yourself, Write an article, or Rework existing article.
- Review every inserted image and compare its alt text with the actual visual content.
- Replace alt text that repeats the section heading, paragraph, or unrelated topic.
- Save or publish the article only after confirming that each image has accurate, concise alt text.
✏️ Improve inaccurate alt text
Write a replacement that identifies what the reader can see and why it matters in context. For example, change “Benefits of remote work” to “Employee working from a home office with a laptop and video call.” Avoid adding keywords that are not visibly supported by the image.
✅ Validate before publishing
- Check that each meaningful image has a relevant description.
- Confirm that alt text does not copy the section heading or body text.
- Remove descriptions of details that are not visible.
- Make sure the wording is useful when read by a screen reader.
- Review the published page to confirm the final alt text was retained.
🚧 If the article is blocked
If Content Genius flags image alt text as duplicate prose or prevents the article from being completed, review the affected image and rewrite the alt text to describe the image itself. If the image is defective or does not match the article, replace it with a suitable image before continuing.
