🔍 Overview
If you are building a new website, you may not have a domain yet. When you set up a Brand Vault in Content Genius, the platform asks for one. This article explains why, and what you can do if you do not have a domain yet.
❓ Why Does the Brand Vault Ask for a Domain?
A Brand Vault stores the key details about your business so your content stays consistent and on-brand. The domain is the main way the platform identifies your website and the business behind it. Because of this, the domain field is normally required when you create a new Brand Vault.
✅ Can I Create Content Without a Domain?
Content Genius is built around a website, so we recommend having a domain or web address in place before you set up a Brand Vault. If you do not have a domain yet, you still have options. The best one depends on where your website is today.
🛠️ Option 1: Use the Domain You Plan to Launch With
If you have already chosen your domain name but have not launched the site, you can enter that name in the Brand Vault. This works best when:
- You have already bought the domain, even if no website is live on it yet.
- You have decided on a name and are about to register it.
Registering your domain first is the cleanest approach. Your content, Brand Vault and future website will all match from the start.
🌐 Option 2: Use a Temporary Website Address
Many website builders give you a free temporary address while you build, such as a staging link or a subdomain. If your site already has one, you can try using it in the Brand Vault. When your final domain is ready, you can set up a new Brand Vault with it.
Tip: Check that the address opens in a browser. Addresses that need a login or are hidden from the public may not work well.
📝 Option 3: Prepare Your Content Plan First
While you wait for your domain, you can get ready so you can move fast once it is live:
- List the pages you want, such as Home, About, Services and Contact.
- Write down your main keywords for each page.
- Gather your business name, a short description, your tone of voice and your target audience.
- Note your main competitors, so you know who you are writing against.
With this ready, setting up your Brand Vault and creating content takes only a few minutes.
