π What this article covers
The Domain Knowledge Network (DKN) suggests blog topics that can strengthen your siteβs topical coverage. You can write and publish those pages in your own CMS instead of inside Search Atlas. This article explains how to mark those recommendations as done, or remove them, so they no longer look unfinished.
β Publishing outside Search Atlas is fine
A DKN recommendation is a content idea, not a requirement to create the page in Search Atlas. If the live article is on your domain and covers the suggested topic, you have fulfilled the recommendation. Search Atlas does not automatically know that an external page is finished until you update the recommendation status.
Before you change the status, confirm these points:
- The page is published on the same domain connected to the project.
- The page clearly covers the recommended topic.
- The URL is live and indexable, not a draft or noindex page.
- You have the final URL ready to reference if a URL field is shown.
π οΈ Mark an external article as completed
- Open the project in Search Atlas and go to the Domain Knowledge Network section.
- Find the recommendation that matches the article you published outside the platform.
- Open that recommendation and look for a status control such as Completed, Published, or Mark as done.
- If a URL or notes field is available, add the live page URL so your team can see where the topic was published.
- Save the change. The item should leave the open or recommended list and show as completed.
You do not need to rebuild the same page with Search Atlas content tools. Recreating it can create duplicate URLs. Keep the external page as the canonical version.
ποΈ Remove a recommendation you already handled
Use remove or dismiss only when you do not want that topic to stay in your plan. This is different from marking it completed.
- Mark completed when you published a matching article and want credit for finishing the topic.
- Dismiss or remove when the topic is not relevant, you will not publish it, or a similar page already covers it and you do not want the suggestion to remain.
- Open Domain Knowledge Network and select the recommendation.
- Choose Dismiss, Remove, or Not relevant if that action is available.
- Confirm the change. Dismissed items should stop appearing in your active recommendations.
If there is no remove action, mark the item completed and add a short note that the page was published outside Search Atlas. That keeps the record clear for your team.
π If the topic still appears
- Refresh the DKN view and check filters. Completed or dismissed items may be hidden by an Open or Recommended filter.
- Search by topic title so you are not updating a similar but different recommendation.
- Avoid publishing a second page for the same topic. Update the existing URL instead.
- Give the project time to refresh after you save. Then confirm the status again.
π‘ Good practice for external blog pages
- Match the article closely to the DKN topic so the coverage goal is actually met.
- Use one clear URL per topic and link related pages on your site where it helps readers.
- Keep titles and headings aligned with the subject you marked complete.
- Record the live URL on the recommendation whenever the product allows it.
