💳 Unauthorized Charge After Cancellation

🔍 Why You Might See a Charge

If you cancelled your subscription but still see a pending or posted charge on your payment method, it usually means the billing system attempted to collect payment for the final invoice before the cancellation was fully processed. In many cases, that collection attempt fails and no money is actually taken from your account.

✅ Steps to Resolve

  1. Check the transaction status on your bank or card statement. Look for labels like pending, failed, declined, or reversed.
  2. Log in to your Search Atlas account and go to Billing > Invoices. Confirm whether the latest invoice shows Paid, Failed, or Cancelled.
  3. If the invoice status is Failed or Cancelled, the charge was not collected and no refund is needed. The pending authorization on your card will typically drop off within 3–5 business days.
  4. If the invoice shows Paid but you believe the subscription was already cancelled, take a screenshot of the invoice and your cancellation confirmation (email or in-app notice).
  5. Open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and type human teammate to be connected with a member of our team. Share the screenshots so we can verify and, if appropriate, issue a refund.

🛡️ Prevention Tips

  • Always wait for the on-screen confirmation message after clicking Cancel Subscription.
  • Save or screenshot the cancellation confirmation email for your records.
  • Review your billing page once a month to catch any unexpected invoices early.

📌 Key Takeaway

A charge that appears after cancellation is often a failed collection attempt, not a successful payment. If the invoice shows Failed, no action is needed — the pending hold will disappear automatically. If it shows Paid, contact support with proof of cancellation for a quick resolution.
