In Content Genius, articles with a Not Begun status are planned titles that exist in your project or topical map but have not yet had AI writing triggered. This is a normal part of the workflow — the article is simply a placeholder waiting for you to start generation. This guide explains how to trigger writing for one article or many at once.
📋 What "Not Begun" Means
Not Begun means the article title has been added to your project (for example, via a topical map import) but no content has been created for it yet. You do not need to contact support to resolve this — triggering generation is a user-initiated action you can do directly from your project view.
✍️ Generate a Single Article

Go to Left sidebar → Content → Content Planner and open your project or topical map.

Find the article showing Not Begun status and click on it to open it.

Click the Write an article button.

Select your generation mode:
- Auto-Generate — fully automated; the AI handles research, outline, and writing end-to-end.
- Step-by-Step — lets you review and approve the outline before writing begins.

The article moves to In Progress while the AI writes (approximately 2–3 minutes), then changes to Needs Review when complete.
⚡ Generate Multiple Articles at Once
- From Left sidebar → Content → Content Planner, select the articles you want to generate using the checkboxes next to each Not Begun title, then click + Create articles.
- Click the bulk Generate action in the top action bar.
- Articles will queue and be written one after another. Monitor each article's status as it moves through In Progress and into Needs Review.
⚠️ Things to Know Before You Generate
- A Brand Vault (domain) must be assigned to the project before generation can run correctly.
- Each article takes approximately 2–3 minutes to generate. Bulk selections queue sequentially — they do not all run at the same time.
- Once generation starts, it cannot be cancelled mid-run.
- After generation, articles stop at Needs Review. They are not automatically published to any CMS — you must review and publish manually.
- Playbook and editorial rules: Content Genius may not fully apply your configured playbook structure or editorial rules during generation. This is a known issue that is currently under active development.
- Articles stuck in "Not Begun" after triggering generation: In rare cases — particularly for titles imported via a spreadsheet file — an article may remain in Not Begun or fail to advance to In Progress after you click Generate. If refreshing the page does not update the status, contact support via the chat widget below.
