🛠️ Fix Content Genius Stuck at Zero Words

Last updated on Nov 05, 2026

📝 What this issue looks like

Content Genius can leave an article in progress with a word count of zero. In the articles list that column shows a dash instead of 0, and the editor footer shows "0 words". The editor also shows a content score out of 100. A low score, or a score of 0, means there is little or no article text to grade. It does not change the editor theme or move the buttons. These signs usually mean generation is still running, or it failed and left an empty draft.

🔍 Check the article before you retry

Open the article from the Content Genius list. If its status says Generating, select the row to return to the generation screen and let that run finish. You can leave the page. The article keeps generating in the background. Do not start another generation for the same article while one is still running. If it is still generating with no progress after about 15 minutes, it is marked Failed.

  • Stay on the same article so you do not lose the draft you are checking.
  • Note the article name and the time you started generation.
  • If you contact support, send the article title and the address of the article page. An article or job ID is not shown on screen.

🚀 Retry a stuck generation

  1. Reload the article page and check whether any text has appeared.
  2. If the article status is Failed and the word count is still empty, open the row menu and choose Retry once. On the generation screen, the same action is the Retry button. If the failure says the AI quota is used up, top up first. Retry appears after the top-up. Do not use image or alt-text regenerate for an empty article.
  3. Leave the tab open until the word count moves above zero or an error appears.
  4. If nothing changes after several minutes, create a new draft with the same brief and generate once.

A successful run should replace the empty draft with article text and clear the in-progress state. Avoid editing the empty draft while generation is still running.

📊 Clear a Low AI banner that stays on screen

The content score stays low, often 0, after a failed or partial run and while the article is still empty. That is expected until a completed draft exists. Reload the article after generation finishes to see the new text and score. If the run failed, use Retry once rather than regenerating.

⚙️ Fix dark mode and misplaced buttons

A layout glitch can appear at the same time as a stuck job. It does not mean your content settings were changed.

  • Hard refresh the page, or close the article and open it again.
  • Set the browser zoom to 100 percent and widen the window.
  • Turn off extensions that change page colors or layout, then reload.
  • Try a private window or another supported browser if buttons are still misplaced.

Refreshing the page does not delete your article brief, and it does not change the editor theme or move its buttons. The editor uses a light theme. The articles list is dark as part of its normal design.

💡 Prevent repeat stalls

  • Generate one article at a time and wait for the word count to update.
  • Write the article brief before you start. It needs a topic, title, or idea. Target keywords are optional and can be added as chips.
  • Do not close the tab in the first minute after you select generate.

💬 Contact support

If the article stays at zero words, the Low AI banner remains after a completed draft, or the editor layout is still wrong, share the article name, the approximate start time, and any ID shown on screen. If you need further assistance, open the chat widget in the bottom-right corner of the platform and send your message. A member of our support team will reply in the chat.
