🔍 What You Are Seeing
You run an on-page audit in Content Genius with a specific location selected, such as Easton, MD. The audit finishes normally, but when you open the completed report, the location shown is Worldwide instead of the one you picked. Rankings, search results, and competitor data in the report reflect global results rather than local ones.
💡 Why This Happens
This is a known issue. When an on-page audit runs, Content Genius currently does not carry your configured target location into the audit job, so the audit falls back to the default: Worldwide. Our engineering team is aware of the behavior and is triaging it for a permanent fix.
- The location selector appears to save correctly when you set up the audit.
- The setting is simply not applied when the audit actually runs.
- The audit itself is not broken. Content analysis, keyword coverage, and optimization suggestions are still generated; only geographic targeting is affected.
📊 How This Affects Your Report
- Ranking positions and search engine results page (SERP) data reflect worldwide results, not your local market.
- Competitor pages pulled into the report may differ from the local competitors you see when searching from your area.
- Content scoring remains useful for your target keyword overall, but local search intent may carry less weight than expected.
If you access Search Atlas through a white-label partner such as GoHighLevel, some location options in the on-page audit may appear restricted. That behavior is separate from and unrelated to this issue.
🛠️ Workarounds Until the Fix Ships
- Add your location to the keyword. Instead of auditing a keyword like "plumber," use "plumber Easton MD." The audit reads geographic signals directly from the keyword, so results, competitors, and suggestions lean local even when the location field defaults to Worldwide.
- Review local results manually. Run a search in your browser with your location applied, then compare the top results against the pages in your report. This helps you spot local competitors and landmarks worth mentioning in your content.
- Re-run the audit after the fix. Once the issue is resolved, run a fresh on-page audit with your location selected so the report reflects true local data.
📋 How to Confirm Which Location Was Used
- Open the completed on-page audit in Content Genius.
- Check the report header or summary area, where the target location appears alongside your keyword and URL.
- If it reads Worldwide, the audit ran with the default location, regardless of the location you selected during setup.
