The Local Citations feature in Search Atlas relies on a third-party data provider called BrightLocal to create and distribute business listings across citation directories. BrightLocal's citation network does not currently cover Denmark or several other countries, which means addresses registered in those regions cannot be processed through the Citations tool.
If you are based in Denmark and attempting to create a citation, you will encounter a registration failure. This is a known geographic limitation — not a bug in your account or setup.
📍 How to Access the Citations Feature
To reach Local Citations in the platform, follow this path:
- Click Local in the left sidebar.
- Select Local Citations from the sub-menu.
If your business address is located in Denmark, the system will be unable to complete the citation creation process at this stage.
🚫 Why Danish Addresses Fail
When you attempt to register a Danish address, the failure occurs because:
- BrightLocal's citation distribution network does not include Danish directories or data partners at this time.
- Search Atlas passes your business address to BrightLocal's API to identify and build citations. If BrightLocal does not support the country, the API returns an error and the citation cannot be created.
- This is a third-party infrastructure limitation, not an issue with your account, subscription tier, or the information you entered.
This limitation applies to the entire country of Denmark and is not specific to a particular city, postal code, or address format.
🌍 Other Affected Regions
Denmark is one of several countries where BrightLocal's citation coverage is limited or unavailable. Coverage varies by region and is subject to change as BrightLocal expands its directory network. If you manage locations in multiple countries, check whether each country is supported before attempting to build citations through Search Atlas.
✅ Available Workarounds
While full Citations support for Denmark is not yet available inside Search Atlas, you can take the following steps to maintain your local SEO presence in the meantime:
- Manual citation building: Submit your business information directly to major Danish directories such as De Gule Sider, Eniro, and Krak. These submissions are free and give you direct control over your listings.
- Google Business Profile optimisation: Use the Local section of Search Atlas to manage and optimise your Google Business Profile fully. Navigate to Local → Overview to monitor your profile health, and use Local → Posts and Local → Reviews to stay active and engage with customers.
- Third-party citation tools: Platforms such as BrightLocal's own self-service dashboard or Whitespark support manual citation submissions for Denmark and may offer broader Nordic directory coverage.
- Track progress with Search Atlas: Even without automated citation creation, you can continue using Local → My Tasks to manage action items and Local → Media Library to keep your business assets organised and ready for when support is extended.
🗓️ Timeline for Denmark Support
Search Atlas is actively working with BrightLocal and evaluating additional data partners to expand citation coverage to Denmark and other currently unsupported countries. There is no confirmed release date at this time. When Denmark support becomes available, it will be announced in the platform release notes and communicated to affected customers.
🛠️ What to Do If You See an Error Message
If you receive a technical error when attempting to add a Danish address under Local → Local Citations, follow these steps:
- Confirm that your business address is located in Denmark — this is the most common cause of the failure.
- Do not attempt to re-enter the address multiple times; the result will be the same until platform support is added.
- Use the manual workarounds described above to continue building your local presence.
- If you believe your address is in a supported country and you are still seeing an error, contact our support team for further investigation.
