📌 Overview

When you create an article in Content Genius, the platform automatically generates a set of topical terms — keywords and related phrases that guide your content's SEO structure. Understanding how this process works will help you get the best results and avoid confusion when the terms don't match your expectations.

🔍 How Topical Terms Are Generated

Topical terms are created automatically when you create a new article in Content Genius. The platform analyses your target keyword and generates a relevant set of topical terms based on that initial input.

Key things to know about this process:

  • Topical terms are tied to the specific article created at that time.
  • If only one keyword appears in your topical terms panel, this reflects what was generated at the time of article creation — it is not a display error or a data sync issue.

⚠️ Why You May See Only One Keyword

If your topical terms section is showing fewer keywords than expected — for example, only a single keyword — this is most likely because:

  • The target keyword entered at article creation was very narrow or highly specific, resulting in limited topical term suggestions.
  • The keyword had low data availability at the time of generation.
  • The article was created before additional keyword data was available in the platform.

✅ How to Get Different or Additional Topical Terms

If you are seeing fewer topical terms than expected, the recommended approach is to create a new article with a different or broader keyword. To do this:

  1. Open Content Genius in your Search Atlas workspace.
  2. Create a new article.
  3. Enter your target keyword carefully — consider using a broader or more descriptive keyword phrase to increase the number of topical terms generated.
  4. Complete the article setup. The platform will generate a fresh set of topical terms based on your new input.
  5. Review the topical terms before writing. If they look comprehensive, proceed with your content.

Your original article will remain intact in your workspace. You can keep it as a reference or delete it if it is no longer needed.

💡 Tips for Better Topical Term Results

To maximise the number and relevance of topical terms when creating a new article:

  • Use a clear, specific primary keyword that has sufficient search volume and broad enough scope to support multiple related terms.
  • Avoid overly niche or long-tail phrases at the article creation stage if you want a richer set of topical terms.
  • Review the topical terms immediately after creation so you can decide early whether to proceed or start a new article with an adjusted keyword.
