If a project (for example, a client website) is visible inside a shared workspace where an unauthorized user has admin access, you can request that Search Atlas detach it and transfer it to a private, owner-controlled workspace. This article explains how workspace isolation works and how to request one.
⚠️ Why This Happens
Projects in Search Atlas live inside workspaces. When multiple users or organizations share a workspace, every admin in that workspace can see all projects inside it. This becomes a problem when:
- A client or contractor was given admin access to a shared workspace.
- A project belonging to a different client or owner was created inside that same workspace.
- The original owner needs to regain exclusive control of the project without losing data.
Search Atlas does not automatically separate projects when workspace membership changes, so a manual isolation action is required.
📋 What Is Preserved During a Transfer
When a project is detached from one workspace and moved to another, project data and configuration are carried over. Ownership metadata is updated to reflect the destination workspace, and the project will no longer appear in the source workspace once the transfer is complete. The support team will confirm exactly what is included when they process your request.
🛠️ How to Request a Project Isolation and Transfer
This operation is performed by the Search Atlas support team on your behalf. To help the team process your request as quickly as possible, have the following ready before reaching out:
- The affected project name and domain — the exact name of the project and the domain it is associated with.
- The current workspace name — where the project currently lives.
- The destination workspace — whether you want the project moved to an existing private workspace or need a new one created.
- Proof of ownership — be prepared to verify that you are the original account owner; the support team will check account records before making any changes.
- A brief description of the access concern — explain who has unauthorized access and why the project needs to be isolated.
