🔍 Overview
The Keywords page in Search Atlas gives you a centralised view of how your tracked keywords are performing across search engines. The GBP Audit (Google Business Profile Audit) also includes keyword ranking data to help you measure local visibility. This article covers general best practices for the Keywords page and explains what to expect regarding keyword ranking limits inside GBP Audit.
📋 What Is the Keywords Page?
The Keywords page displays ranking data for all keywords you are tracking for a given project. It shows metrics such as current position, position change, search volume, and URL ranking for each keyword. Use this page to monitor SEO progress over time and identify opportunities to improve your content strategy.
✅ Best Practices for Using the Keywords Page
Follow these recommendations to get the most value from your Keywords page data:
- Group keywords by topic or intent. Organise your tracked keywords into logical clusters — for example, by service type, location, or funnel stage. This makes it easier to spot patterns and prioritise optimisation efforts.
- Monitor position changes regularly. Review your keyword rankings on a consistent schedule. Sudden drops in ranking can signal technical issues, algorithm updates, or increased competition that need prompt attention.
- Cross-reference with on-page SEO tools. Compare keyword rankings with on-page SEO signals using the relevant audit tools in your project. If a keyword is underperforming, reviewing content gaps or optimisation opportunities on the ranking URL can help identify next steps.
- Use ranking data to guide content planning. Keywords that are ranking but not yet near the top of search results are strong candidates for content improvement. Use your content planning tools within Search Atlas to build or update content targeting those terms.
- Align keywords with your topical strategy. Ensure your tracked keywords fit within a broader topical authority strategy. Covering related subtopics strengthens rankings for your core terms.
- Track local keywords for GBP projects. If you manage a Google Business Profile, make sure location-specific keywords are tracked so you can measure local pack visibility alongside organic rankings.
🏪 GBP Audit and Keyword Ranking Limits
Within the GBP Audit, you can include keyword rankings to assess how your Google Business Profile is performing in local search. There is a limit on the number of keyword rankings that can be included per GBP Audit, and this limit is determined by your current plan.
To find the keyword ranking limit that applies to your account:
- Log in to Search Atlas and click your avatar in the top-right, then go to Billing → Plans & Top-ups (Billing).
- Review your plan details to see the keyword tracking limits associated with your subscription tier.
- If your GBP Audit is not reflecting the keyword data you expect, check whether you have reached your plan's keyword limit by comparing the number of keywords tracked in your GBP project against your plan allowance.
- If you need to track more keywords than your current plan allows, consider upgrading your plan from within Account Settings.
