🗺️ Exclude Map Pack From Rank Tracker

Last updated on Nov 05, 2026

🗺️ What the map pack exclusion does

Keyword Rank Tracker (KRT) reports standard organic results. The map pack, also called the local pack, is a separate Google Maps block. Clicks from that block often use google.com/goto links. Those links are map redirects, not regular organic listings. KRT ignores an unresolved google.com/goto link when matching organic results, but a project with a stored Google Business Profile CID still falls back to the matching local-pack position when no standard organic result is found.

⚙️ Turn off map pack fallback

You can remove map pack fallback from KRT without disconnecting your Google Business Profile. Profile data and rank tracking use separate connections.

  1. Open the project and go to Keywords, then Rank Tracker.
  2. Open the tracker settings for that project.
  3. There is no Map pack fallback switch. In Settings, Track in Google Local Pack only controls whether a separate Local Pack keyword record is added. Turning it off does not stop KRT from using the local pack when the project has a stored Google Business Profile CID and no standard organic result matches.
  4. Save the setting. This does not disconnect the Google Business Profile, and the saved project keeps its stored Business Profile CID.
  5. Use the project refresh button or wait for the next scheduled rank check. Existing positions stay until that run, and a stored Business Profile CID still allows a local-pack position when no standard organic result matches.

After this change, a project that still has a stored Business Profile CID can show a local-pack position for a keyword with no standard organic listing. KRT can store that map position and its maps or google.com/goto link.

🔍 Why a brand search can miss the homepage at number 1

On a brand search, Google often shows your Business Profile in the map pack above the classic results. If fallback is on, KRT may store the map listing or a google.com/goto link instead of your homepage. The homepage can still be the first organic result, but the tracker will not show it at number 1 because it recorded the map result.

  • Map result stored: the tracked URL is a maps or goto link, not your domain homepage.
  • Organic result present: the homepage may still be the first normal blue link under the map pack.
  • Location or device: brand results can change by city and by mobile versus desktop. Compare the same settings KRT uses.

Turning off Track in Google Local Pack and rechecking the keyword does not by itself make KRT report the homepage. While the project keeps a stored Business Profile CID, KRT can still use the local-pack result when the homepage is not matched as a standard organic result.

📊 What stays connected

Turning off Track in Google Local Pack does not remove your Google Business Profile, local pages, or citation data. It only stops a separate Local Pack keyword record from being added. Keep the profile connected if you still want Business Profile insights. To make this KRT project report organic positions only, track the site in a separate Rank Tracker project that has no Google Business Profile attached.

💡 If the homepage is still missing

  • Confirm the tracked URL is your homepage, not a maps or goto link.
  • Match the location and device used in KRT when you check Google.
  • Look below the map pack for the first normal organic result.
  • Wait until the next rank update finishes before comparing numbers.
