📊 Google Analytics Shows Wrong Site Data

🔍 What This Issue Looks Like

The Google Analytics section in Search Atlas is designed to show performance data for the website connected to your project. If you are seeing traffic, sessions, or user numbers that belong to a different website, the wrong Google Analytics property is most likely connected. Common signs include:

  • Numbers that look far too high or too low for your site
  • A property name or domain in the section that does not match your project
  • Data that matches another website you also manage in Google Analytics
  • Empty or zero metrics even though your site clearly receives traffic

💡 Why This Happens

This issue almost always comes down to which Google Analytics property Search Atlas is pulling data from. A property is the container Google Analytics uses to collect data for one website. Common causes include:

  • Multiple properties under one Google account: If your Google account manages analytics for several websites, the wrong property may have been selected when the connection was first set up.
  • Similar domain names: Properties for example.com and example.co.uk, or www and non-www versions of the same site, are easy to mix up.
  • Renamed or reused properties: If a property in Google Analytics was renamed, moved, or reused for a different website, Search Atlas keeps pulling data from the same property ID.
  • Shared Google accounts across a team: A teammate may have connected a property that belongs to a different client or project.

🛠️ How to Fix It

Follow these steps to disconnect the incorrect property and connect the right one:

  1. Open your project and go to the Google Analytics section.
  2. Note the name and ID of the currently connected property. In Google Analytics 4, the property ID is a number that looks like 123456789.
  3. Open Google Analytics in a separate tab, go to Admin, and confirm which property ID belongs to your website. The ID appears next to the property name at the top of the Admin screen.
  4. Back in Search Atlas, use the disconnect or remove option to end the current Google Analytics connection.
  5. Reconnect Google Analytics and sign in with the Google account that owns the correct property.
  6. When the list of properties appears, select the property whose ID matches your website. Double-check the ID before confirming, because this is where most mismatches happen.
  7. Save the connection and return to the Google Analytics section in your project.

Note: After reconnecting, allow up to 24 hours for data to refresh and display correctly for the newly connected property.

✅ How to Confirm the Correct Site Is Connected

Once you have reconnected, verify the fix with these checks:

  • Match the property ID: The ID shown in Search Atlas matches the property ID in your Google Analytics Admin settings.
  • Match the domain: The property's website URL exactly matches your project's domain, including www or any subdomains.
  • Compare the numbers: Sessions and users shown in Search Atlas roughly match the same date range when you view the property directly in Google Analytics.

💬 Still Seeing Data From Another Site?
