💡 Why the background looks black again
A white report background is a display setting for that report view. It can return to the default black background if the light theme was not saved, the page was opened from a fresh link, or the browser loaded an older cached version of the report.
This does not mean your report data was deleted or changed. Only the on-screen background color reverted.
🔍 Common reasons it reverts
- The change was not saved. Switching the background in the open report may apply only for the current view until you save or apply the theme.
- A new session or link was used. Opening the report again, refreshing after sign-out, or using a shared link can load the default black background.
- Another user updated the report. If teammates share the same account or workspace, a later save can replace your display choice.
- The browser cached the old view. A stored page can show black even after you previously selected white.
- Dark mode or an extension overrides the page. Browser dark mode, reader mode, or a color-changing extension can force a dark background.
🛠️ Set the white background again
- Open the report inside Search Atlas while you are signed in.
- Open the left navigation drawer and find the Dark / Light theme switch at the bottom. This changes the theme for the whole app, including the report page. There is no separate background setting on the report itself.
- Select Light. The report page background becomes light gray. The report header stays dark indigo, and the downloaded PDF report stays white either way.
- Click Light. The page reloads on its own to apply the theme. Wait for the reload to finish instead of closing the tab.
- Refresh the report once and confirm the background stays white.
✅ Keep the light background from switching back
- Use the same signed-in account each time you open the report.
- Avoid opening an older bookmarked or shared link if you have a newer saved version.
- Ask teammates not to resave the report with the black background selected.
- Hard-refresh the page, or clear the cache for Search Atlas, if white was saved but black still appears.
- Turn off browser dark mode and color-changing extensions for the Search Atlas site, then reload the report.
- Try a private window. If white appears there, a cache or extension in your normal browser is the likely cause.
📊 What to check before contacting support
Note whether the black background appears for one report or every report, and whether it happens after refresh, sign-out, or only in one browser. Also note the approximate time you last set the background to white. These details help the team find the cause faster.
