π What this article covers
Site Metrics and Google Search Console (GSC) answer different questions. A homepage can show a small Site Metrics traffic number, such as 7, while GSC shows 58 clicks and about 1.58k impressions over 28 days. Paid traffic can show 0, suggested competitors can be large national brands, Content Velocity can list only your own projects, and homepage Page Health can show 0. These results are usually expected, not a broken connection.
π Estimates versus verified clicks
Site Metrics is an estimate of search visibility. It models likely traffic from keywords the data source can see. GSC reports actual clicks and impressions for the property you verified in Google. Clicks and impressions are not the same number, and neither one is required to match an estimate.
Gaps are common when:
- The site is small, new, or mostly found through your brand name.
- You compare a homepage-only Site Metrics view with GSC data for the whole property.
- Date ranges, countries, or devices do not match exactly.
- Many queries are grouped as anonymous in public keyword data, so the model under-counts real clicks.
- GSC impressions include times your page was shown but not clicked. Site Metrics traffic is closer to visits than to impressions.
Use GSC as the source of truth for your own clicks. Use Site Metrics to compare relative visibility, spot keyword themes, and track change over time. Do not expect the two products to show the same integer.
π³ Why paid traffic can be 0
A paid value of 0 means no paid-search activity was detected for that site in the estimate source for the selected period. It does not mean your organic clicks are wrong, and it does not pull spend from Google Ads. GSCβs Performance report is organic search unless you are looking at a separate ads account. If you are not running search ads, 0 is the correct Site Metrics result.
π’ Why competitors look like national brands
Competitor suggestions are based on keyword overlap, not on a hand-picked local market. Broad or head terms often overlap with large national sites that rank for the same words. A name match does not mean that company is your true business rival.
To read the list usefully:
- Open the overlapping keywords and ignore pure brand or generic terms that do not describe your offer.
- Favor specific service, product, or location terms.
- Treat national brands as noise unless they sell the same thing in your market.
- Compare direction over time rather than treating one match as a final competitor set.
π Why Content Velocity lists only your projects
Content Velocity is limited to projects inside your Search Atlas account. It shows how publishing pace compares across sites you manage. It does not crawl an unlimited set of outside competitors. If you only have a few projects, those are the only rows you will see. Add another site as a project only if you are allowed to manage it.
π οΈ Why homepage Page Health can be 0
Page Health 0 usually means a score has not been produced for that URL yet. It is not the same as βthis page has no qualityβ and it is not your GSC click count. Typical causes are a crawl or audit still running, the homepage not included in the latest audit, a blocked or redirected URL, or a score that failed to calculate.
Check the following:
- Confirm the audited URL is the exact homepage, including https and any trailing slash.
- Confirm the latest site audit finished after the page was added.
- Re-run the audit if the homepage was blocked, newly published, or changed.
- If a completed audit still shows 0, the score needs a review rather than a manual guess.
β How to compare the numbers fairly
- Match the date range, such as the same 28 days, before comparing.
- Compare GSC clicks with estimated traffic, not with impressions.
- Keep property-wide GSC separate from a single homepage view.
- Expect estimates to be lower than real clicks on small or brand-heavy sites.
- Use paid = 0 as βno ads detected,β not as an organic error.
- Use competitors and Content Velocity as directional context, not as a full market census.
