(nullish coalescing) and ??= (nullish assignment) — causing plugins like Slider Revolution to fail silently. Disabling OTTO and clearing your site cache immediately restores affected elements while the engineering fix is deployed.
🔍 What Is Happening
OTTO's page-optimization feature processes inline script blocks on your site. In some cases, it collapses the ?? and ??= operators — valid modern JavaScript syntax — down to a single ?, producing a JavaScript SyntaxError.
Because browsers suppress SyntaxErrors in inline scripts silently, the affected script stops executing entirely, which causes:
- Plugin sliders (e.g., Slider Revolution) to appear blank or disappear entirely
- Any plugin or widget sharing the same inline script block to stop working
- No visible error message on the front end of your site
Who is affected: Sites running OTTO alongside Slider Revolution, or any theme or plugin that uses ?? or ??= operators in inline JavaScript.
🛠️ Workaround Steps
Follow these steps to restore your slider and other affected JavaScript elements immediately.
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Search Atlas → Settings in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Disable OTTO for your site, or toggle off the page-optimization feature.
- Clear any server-side or CDN cache for your site.
- Reload your homepage — Slider Revolution and all affected JavaScript elements should now render correctly.
Note: OTTO's SEO-assistance features are paused while it is disabled. You can re-enable OTTO safely once the fix is released.
