Your content score measures the on-page optimization of your existing pages, not how much new content you publish. To raise it, approve and deploy the pending OTTO recommendations in your dashboard.
📊 What the Content Score Measures
The content score reflects how many of OTTO's content recommendations you have approved and deployed across your site. It tracks on-page optimization fixes, such as headings, meta titles, meta descriptions, canonical links, and meta keywords on your current pages.
Because the score is tied to these recommendations, it stays flat until you act on them. A score that holds at the same number means those fixes are still waiting in your dashboard.
🆕 Why Publishing New Articles Doesn't Move the Content Score
Publishing new content builds topical coverage, which is how broadly your site covers the subjects your audience searches for. New articles do not change the content score.
The content score measures optimization of your existing pages. New posts add coverage, but they do not approve or deploy the on-page fixes the score is built from, so the number stays the same no matter how many you publish.
✅ How to Increase Your Content Score
To move the score, work through the pending OTTO recommendations in your dashboard and deploy them. Follow these steps:
- Open your OTTO dashboard.
- Locate the pending content recommendations, grouped by type.
- Review and approve the heading optimizations.
- Approve the meta titles and meta descriptions.
- Approve the canonical link fixes.
- Approve the meta keywords.
- Deploy the approved recommendations to your site.
As each batch deploys, your content score rises to reflect the newly optimized pages.
📋 Example: Pending Recommendations That Hold a Score Down
A score can stay flat when large volumes of recommendations remain pending. For example, an account holding at a score of 33 had the following waiting in the dashboard:
- 530 of 553 heading optimizations pending.
- 199 meta titles and descriptions pending.
- 39 canonical links pending.
- 199 meta keywords pending.
Clearing these pending items is exactly what raises the score.
🛠️ If Your Content Score Still Won't Move
If the score stays the same after you deploy recommendations, check the following:
- Confirm the recommendations show a deployed status, not just approved.
- Make sure you are reviewing the pages tied to OTTO, since the score measures existing optimized pages.
- Allow time for deployed changes to register in the dashboard.
Once your deployed recommendations register, the content score reflects the improved on-page optimization.
🔍 Why Your Content Score Might Stay Stuck Even With Recommendations
Sometimes the score stalls for reasons beyond pending recommendations. If you have deployed your fixes and the number still won't budge, check for these issues:
- OTTO is still processing. If your OTTO dashboard shows 0 total pages or no recommendations appear, your project may still be processing. Wait a few minutes and refresh, or contact support if the issue persists.
- Inactive OTTO pixel. Confirm the OTTO pixel is installed and active on your site, since deploying recommendations relies on it.
- Quota or crawl budget exhaustion. If you have used up your quota or crawl budget, new pages and recommendations cannot be processed until it refreshes.
- Slow site performance. If you don't see any pending recommendations, your site may be loading too slowly for our crawler to scan it properly. Check site performance and contact your hosting provider if needed.
🎯 You now know that your content score tracks deployed on-page fixes, not new articles. Open your OTTO dashboard, approve and deploy the pending heading, meta, and canonical recommendations, and watch your content score climb.
