π Overview
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) key events track the actions that matter most to your business β purchases, form submissions, sign-ups, and more. This article explains where GA4 key event data appears in Search Atlas, how to work with it today, and what is coming in a future update.
π Where GA4 Key Events Appear
GA4 key event data is available inside Report Builder. Once your GA4 property is connected, Report Builder displays a dedicated Key Events section that lists your designated key events in a paginated table.
To access this section:
- Open Report Builder from the left sidebar.
- Select or create the report you want to work with.
- Scroll to the Key Events section within the report view.
- Review your paginated key event data pulled directly from your connected GA4 property.
π€ Using the AI Agent to Work with Key Events
Report Builder includes a built-in AI agent that can help you pull and organise data inside your reports. You can use prompts like the ones below to work with your GA4 key event data:
- "Show me the key events from my GA4 property in this report."
- "Add a Key Events section to this report."
- "Summarise my top GA4 key events for the selected date range."
Type your prompt directly into the agent chat inside Report Builder. The agent will reference your connected GA4 data and update the report accordingly.
β οΈ Current Limitations: Executive Summary Cards
At this time, it is not yet possible to add individual GA4 key event cards β with customisable visual indicators such as charts or trend widgets β directly to the Executive Summary section of a report. This is a known feature request (RB-1600) that is actively being tracked by our product team.
What you can do today:
- View all designated GA4 key events in the Key Events section of Report Builder.
- Use the AI agent to include key event summaries in your report content.
- Share or export the report with the Key Events section included.
β Confirming Your GA4 Property Is Connected
Key event data will only appear if your GA4 property is properly connected to Search Atlas. To verify your connection:
- Go to Site Metrics in the left sidebar.
- Select Overview or Site Events to confirm GA4 data is populating.
- If no GA4 data appears, check your integration settings and reconnect your GA4 property if needed.
π οΈ Troubleshooting: Key Events Not Showing Correctly
If you see events in the Key Events section that do not match the key events you have designated inside GA4, try the following steps:
- Confirm that the events are marked as key events inside your GA4 property settings, not just tracked as standard events.
- Allow up to 24 hours for newly designated key events to sync and appear in Report Builder.
- Disconnect and reconnect your GA4 integration if data still appears inconsistent.
π What's Coming Next
The ability to add individual GA4 key event cards with customisable visual indicators to the Executive Summary is on the product roadmap under feature request RB-1600. When this feature is released, you will be able to surface specific key events as visual cards directly within your executive-level report views.
We recommend checking the Search Atlas changelog or release notes for updates on this feature.
