🔍 Overview

OTTO SEO lets you update and deploy meta descriptions in bulk — no special settings required. You can review AI-generated suggestions, edit them as needed, select all pages at once, and deploy everything in a single action. This article walks you through the full process.

🧭 How to Navigate to Meta Descriptions in OTTO SEO

  1. Log in to your Search Atlas account.
  2. In the left sidebar, click OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) (or go to /seo-automation-v3).
  3. Select the project you want to work on.
  4. In the OTTO dashboard, locate the Meta Descriptions issue type — it is listed under the on-page SEO recommendations section.
  5. Click on Meta Descriptions to expand the full list of pages with suggestions.

✏️ How to Review and Edit Meta Description Suggestions

Before deploying, take a moment to review the AI-generated suggestions. You can accept them as-is or customise them for any page.

  1. With the Meta Descriptions issue type open, you will see a table listing every page that has a suggestion ready.
  2. Click the suggestion text for any individual page to open the inline editor.
  3. Make your edits, then click outside the field or press Enter to save the change.
  4. Repeat for any other pages you want to customise before deploying.

Tip: OTTO automatically generates suggestions based on your page content and target keywords. If a suggestion looks good, you do not need to edit it — simply leave it as-is and include it in your bulk selection.

✅ How to Select All Meta Descriptions at Once

You do not need to enable any special setting to select multiple pages. The bulk-select feature is available by default.

  1. In the Meta Descriptions table, check the checkbox in the header row (top-left of the table). This selects all pages currently visible in the list.
  2. If your list spans multiple pages, use the page size control to show more rows per page so you can select all at once.
  3. Confirm the total number of selected items shown in the bulk action bar that appears at the bottom or top of the table.

🚀 How to Deploy All Selected Meta Descriptions

  1. With your pages selected, click the Deploy button in the bulk action bar.
  2. A confirmation prompt will appear showing the number of changes about to be deployed. Review this and click Confirm.
  3. OTTO will push all selected meta descriptions to your connected CMS or website simultaneously.
  4. Once complete, the status column for each deployed page will update to reflect the change.

Note: Deployment requires your site to be connected to OTTO SEO. If your site runs on WordPress, make sure the Search Atlas WordPress plugin is installed and active. If deployments succeed but changes do not appear on your live site, clear your site cache and allow a few minutes for the update to propagate.

⚠️ Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Meta descriptions are not updating on the live site after deployment: Clear your WordPress or hosting cache. If the issue persists, verify the Search Atlas plugin is up to date and that OTTO has write permissions for your CMS.
  • The Deploy button is greyed out: Ensure at least one page is selected using the checkboxes. Also confirm your site connection is active under your OTTO project settings.
  • Some pages are missing from the list: OTTO only surfaces pages that have been crawled and have an actionable suggestion. Run a fresh crawl from the OTTO dashboard to pick up newly published pages.
  • Changes show as deployed in OTTO but are not visible on the website: This is a known sync issue with certain WordPress configurations. Check that the plugin has the correct API credentials and retry deployment for the affected URLs.

💡 Tips for Faster Bulk Editing

  • Use the filter and sort controls in the Meta Descriptions table to prioritise high-traffic pages first.
  • Accept OTTO's AI suggestions for lower-priority pages and focus manual editing time on your most important URLs.
  • After deploying, use Search Atlas's rank tracking tools to monitor whether the updated meta descriptions improve click-through rates in search results.
