When Otto SEO applies fixes to your website, those changes are not written directly into your site's source code files. Instead, the fixes are deployed through the Otto pixel, a JavaScript snippet that is installed on your site. Otto injects the changes dynamically via HTML using client-side rendering, meaning the fixes are applied in the browser when the page loads.
This approach allows Otto to deploy optimizations quickly without requiring direct access to your CMS or codebase.
How to verify that Otto's changes are live on your page:
- Step 1: Copy the fix that Otto has suggested for a specific item.
- Step 2: Open the URL listed on that same line in your browser.
- Step 3: Right-click anywhere on the page to open the context menu.
- Step 4: Select Inspect to open your browser's developer tools.
- Step 5: Use Ctrl + F (Windows) or Command + F (Mac) within the inspector panel, then paste the fix you copied in Step 1 to search for it in the rendered HTML.
If the fix appears in the inspected HTML, Otto is working correctly and the change has been successfully injected on that page. Keep in mind that because Otto uses client-side rendering, the fix may not appear if you simply view the raw page source (using "View Page Source"), since that only shows the original HTML before JavaScript runs.
