🔍 Overview

Some customers have noticed that Core Web Vitals scores in the OTTO dashboard have not refreshed, even after rescanning their site or making performance improvements. This article explains why this happens and what you can do in the meantime.

⚠️ What Is Happening

Core Web Vitals data inside the OTTO dashboard is sourced from the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX), which is Google's real-user field data collected over a 28-day rolling window. Our engineering team has identified a bug where this CrUX data is not refreshing as expected, even when a new Site Audit crawl is triggered. As a result, the scores displayed in your OTTO dashboard may appear frozen or out of date.

Our team is actively working on a fix, and a resolution is being prioritised.

📊 Why Rescanning Does Not Force a Refresh

It is important to understand that triggering a new Site Audit crawl does not automatically pull fresh CrUX field data from Google. The two processes are separate:

  • Site Audit crawl — checks your site's technical structure, links, and on-page elements.
  • Core Web Vitals (CrUX field data) — pulls real-user experience data that Google aggregates over a rolling 28-day period. This data updates on Google's own schedule and is fetched separately by our platform.

Because of the current bug, our platform is not successfully retrieving the latest CrUX dataset even when a refresh is attempted, so the dashboard continues to show older scores.

🛠️ What to Do Right Now

While the fix is being deployed, you can still monitor your Core Web Vitals performance using the following alternatives:

  1. Google PageSpeed Insights — Visit pagespeed.web.dev and enter your URL to get both lab data and field data directly from Google. This gives you the most up-to-date CrUX scores available.
  2. Google Search Console — Check the Core Web Vitals report in your Search Console account. This report reflects real-user field data for your entire site.
  3. Chrome DevTools or Lighthouse — Run a local Lighthouse audit for lab-based performance metrics that reflect your current site state regardless of CrUX availability.

💡 What to Expect After the Fix

Once the engineering fix is fully deployed, the OTTO dashboard will resume pulling fresh CrUX field data on its normal schedule. At that point, Core Web Vitals scores will update to reflect the most recent 28-day rolling window of real-user data, and any improvements you have made will be reflected in the refreshed scores once enough real-user traffic has been recorded by Google.
