🎯 What Is OTTO Instant Indexing?

OTTO instant indexing automatically submits your fixed pages to Google Search Console (GSC) the moment OTTO deploys improvements to your site. This speeds up Google's crawl and indexing of corrected content, helping your rankings recover faster.

Instant indexing requires a service account connection to Google Search Console and is only available on specific Search Atlas subscription tiers.

📋 Subscription Tier Requirements

OTTO instant indexing is available exclusively on:

  • Pro and Enterprise plans (including Agency/Enterprise)
  • Starter, Essential, and Growth plans do not include instant indexing access

If you're on a Starter or Essential plan and need instant indexing, upgrade your subscription through your account settings.

⚙️ How to Activate Instant Indexing

Step 1: Verify Your Subscription Tier

Log in to Search Atlas and check your current plan in your account settings. If you're on Pro or Enterprise, proceed to step 2. If not, you'll need to upgrade.

Step 2: Navigate to OTTO Settings

Go to OTTO SEO → All Sites (SEO Automation) in the left sidebar, then select your OTTO project. Look for the Instant Indexing or Google Search Console Integration section.

Step 3: Connect Your Google Service Account

Click the Connect to GSC button. You'll be prompted to authorize Search Atlas to access your Google Search Console account using a service account. A service account email will be generated automatically during this process. This email grants Search Atlas permission to submit URLs to Google on your behalf.

Step 4: Confirm Activation

Once the service account is connected and active, the instant indexing feature will be enabled. You'll see confirmation that the integration is live.

🔧 Why Isn't My Service Account Email Generating?

If you're not seeing a service account email appear during setup, check the following:

  • Verify subscription tier — the feature only works on Pro and Enterprise plans. Service account generation may be blocked if you're on a lower tier.
  • Check browser cache — refresh your browser or clear your cache, then try connecting again.
  • Confirm Google permissions — make sure your Google account has admin access to the Search Console property you're trying to connect.
  • Try a different browser — occasionally, browser extensions or cached data can interfere with the connection flow.
  • Wait a few moments — service account creation sometimes takes a few seconds to process. Refresh the page after waiting.

✅ How to Verify Instant Indexing Is Active

After activation, you can confirm the feature is working:

  • The Instant Indexing button in your OTTO project dashboard will be active and clickable (not greyed out).
  • When OTTO deploys fixes to your site, URLs will automatically be submitted to Google Search Console.
  • You can manually submit pages by clicking the Submit to Google or Instant Indexing button in your OTTO dashboard.
  • Check your Google Search Console account to see submitted URLs listed under the URL Inspection tool.

❌ Instant Indexing Button Is Greyed Out

If the instant indexing button appears inactive or disabled, one of the following is likely true:

  • You're on a Starter, Essential, or Growth plan — upgrade to Pro or Enterprise to unlock this feature.
  • Your GSC service account is not connected — return to the integration settings and complete the Google authorization process.
  • Your service account connection expired — disconnect and reconnect your Google Search Console account.
  • Your Google Search Console property is not verified — ensure the website property in GSC is fully verified before connecting.

🔐 Service Account Security and Permissions

The service account generated for OTTO instant indexing:

  • Only has permission to submit URLs to Google Search Console — it cannot modify or delete your site content.
  • Is specific to your Search Atlas account and the connected GSC property.
  • Can be revoked at any time by disconnecting the integration in your OTTO settings.
  • Does not give Search Atlas access to other Google services or your Google Analytics accounts.
