🔍 What Is This Error?
When attempting to export backlinks from the Site Explorer backlinks page, some users encountered the following message: "Export unavailable — This page belongs to a different domain."
This error prevented the export from completing, even when the backlinks data was clearly visible on screen. The data itself was not missing — the issue was caused by a mismatch in the internal site identifier used by the export feature, which caused it to incorrectly treat the page as belonging to a different domain.
✅ Current Status: Resolved
This issue has been fully investigated and fixed by the Search Atlas engineering team. The underlying cause — a mismatched site identifier that blocked the export — has been corrected, and the fix is now live for all users.
If you encountered this error in the past, you should now be able to export your backlinks without seeing this message.
🚀 How to Export Your Backlinks Now
- Navigate to Site Explorer and open your project.
- Go to the backlinks section of your project within Site Explorer.
- Verify that your backlinks data is displayed as expected.
- Use the export option to download your backlinks. The export should now complete successfully.
⚙️ What to Do If the Error Still Appears
In the rare case that you still see the "Export unavailable — This page belongs to a different domain" message after the fix, try the following steps before contacting support:
- Refresh the page and attempt the export again. A stale session can sometimes carry over a previous error state.
- Clear your browser cache and reload the platform to ensure you are running the latest version.
- Try a different browser to rule out a local browser issue.
- Confirm you are viewing the correct project. Navigate to Site Explorer, select your intended project, and then attempt the export from within that project's backlinks view.
If the error persists after trying all of the above, contact support and include the following details to help us investigate quickly: the exact URL or domain you entered in Site Explorer, a screenshot of the error message if possible, and the date and time you encountered the error.
💡 Additional Notes
The engineering team also resolved related export issues in Site Explorer during the same period, including CSV exports returning empty files for keywords, competition, and backlinks data. If you experienced any of those problems, they have been addressed as well and exports should now work correctly across all data types.
