🤔 What Is Happening?
You edited or deleted content in WordPress, deactivated the Search Atlas plugin, yet your live webpage still shows the old content OTTO deployed — for example, a "24/7" phrase or other optimized text you no longer want. This is expected behaviour, not a bug. Understanding why it happens will help you fix it quickly.
⚙️ How OTTO Deployments Work
OTTO SEO applies optimizations directly to your live page at the server or rendering layer, independently of what is stored inside your WordPress editor. This means:
- OTTO-deployed content is not stored inside your WordPress posts or pages — it lives in the Search Atlas platform and is injected on top of your existing page content.
- Editing or deleting text in the WordPress block editor or classic editor does not remove an OTTO optimization that has already been deployed.
- Deactivating or uninstalling the Search Atlas WordPress plugin removes the plugin's local connection but does not automatically roll back active OTTO deployments on your site.
Think of OTTO optimizations as a separate layer sitting above your WordPress content. To remove them, you must manage them inside the Search Atlas dashboard — not inside WordPress.
🛠️ How to Remove a Persisting OTTO Optimization
- Log in to your Search Atlas account.
- In the left sidebar, click OTTO SEO → SEO Automation (URL:
/seo-automation-v3). - Select the website or property where the outdated content is appearing.
- Locate the specific optimization that contains the content you want to remove — for example, the deployment that inserted the "24/7" text.
- Click the optimization to open its details.
- Use the Undeploy or Revert option to roll back that specific change. The optimization will be removed from your live page.
- Reload your live webpage to confirm the outdated content is gone.
If you want to remove all active OTTO optimizations for a property, look for the option to undeploy all changes within the same OTTO SEO section before disconnecting the site.
🔌 Deactivating the Plugin Safely
If your goal is to fully disconnect Search Atlas from your WordPress site, follow this order to avoid leaving orphaned content on your pages:
- First, go to OTTO SEO → SEO Automation in the Search Atlas dashboard and undeploy all active optimizations for that property.
- Confirm your live pages look correct and no OTTO-managed content remains.
- Then deactivate and uninstall the Search Atlas plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
Following this sequence ensures your site is clean before the plugin is removed.
❓ Why Can't I Just Edit It in WordPress?
Because OTTO writes to your live page independently, any text you type into the WordPress editor for that section will be overwritten or ignored as long as an OTTO deployment for that element is still active. Always undeploy first in Search Atlas, then make your WordPress edits if needed.
