🧩 What Is the OTTO Pixel?

The OTTO pixel is a small JavaScript snippet you install on your website to connect it to Search Atlas's OTTO SEO automation engine. It allows OTTO to detect your site's technical environment, deploy on-page optimisations, and monitor implementation status in real time.

❓ Will Removing the Pixel Undo My SEO Work?

It depends on how the changes were applied.

OTTO applies most changes through the OTTO pixel script at page load. If the pixel is removed or the OTTO project is deleted, those pixel-served changes will stop showing on your site. However, changes that were written directly into your site's CMS (for example through the WordPress plugin) can remain in place independently of the pixel.

⚙️ What Does the Pixel Actually Do?

Understanding the pixel's role makes it easier to see why its removal is safe for existing work. The pixel is responsible for:

  • Site detection: Helping OTTO identify your CMS, plugins, and technical setup so it can deploy the right optimisations.
  • Status monitoring: Reporting back to Search Atlas so the platform can confirm which optimisations are active on your site.
  • Ongoing automation: Enabling OTTO to continue pushing new or updated recommendations to your site in real time.

Because most changes are served through the pixel at page load, removing the pixel will stop those pixel-served changes from appearing. Changes written directly into your CMS (for example via the WordPress plugin) can remain in place.

⚠️ What You Will Lose Without the Pixel

While your existing optimisations stay intact, removing the pixel does affect OTTO's ability to work going forward. Specifically, you will lose:

  • The ability for OTTO to deploy new SEO recommendations to your site automatically.
  • Real-time implementation status updates inside the Search Atlas platform.
  • OTTO's ability to detect changes in your site's technical environment and adapt accordingly.
  • Access to certain monitoring and reporting signals that rely on pixel data.

In short, removing the pixel pauses OTTO's active automation and stops pixel-served changes from displaying, though changes written directly into your CMS can remain.

🔄 How to Reinstall the Pixel If Needed

If you removed the pixel and want to resume OTTO automation, reinstalling it is straightforward:

  1. Open the OTTO SEO section of the Search Atlas platform.
  2. Select the relevant site you want to reconnect.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to copy and reinstall the pixel snippet on your website.
