When you submit a phone number correction through Search Atlas, the update is sent to the YP Network (and other citation sources) on your behalf. However, YP Network citations can take longer to reflect changes than other directories — this is normal and not a sign that something has gone wrong.
This article explains why delays happen, what the correction process looks like, and what you can do while you wait.
Why Does the YP Network Take So Long to Update?
Unlike some directories that accept automated data pushes instantly, the YP Network applies its own internal review and publishing process. This means:
- Updates are submitted promptly by Search Atlas, but YP Network controls when the change goes live on their side.
- Processing times vary depending on the type of correction and YP Network's current queue.
- Phone number corrections may take longer than address or name changes because YP Network may conduct additional verification steps.
- Cached versions of your listing can appear on third-party sites that pull from YP data, which adds another layer of delay.
This delay does not mean your correction was lost or ignored — it means it is in YP Network's publishing pipeline.
How to Check the Status of Your Citation Update
You can monitor the progress of your citation correction inside Search Atlas by navigating to your citations management area and locating the YP Network listing. The listing will reflect its current update status so you can confirm whether the correction has been submitted. If the update shows as submitted, the correction has been sent to YP Network and is waiting on their end to be published. No further action is required from you at this stage.
What You Should Do Right Now
While waiting for the YP Network to publish the corrected phone number, we recommend the following steps:
- Verify the correct number is live on other directories. Check Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Yelp, and other major citations to confirm the right number appears there.
- Ensure your website displays the correct phone number. Search engines use your website as a trusted source, so consistency there matters.
- Do not resubmit the correction multiple times. Duplicate submissions can cause conflicts in YP Network's system and may delay the update further.
- Document the discrepancy. Keep a note of when the correction was submitted so you have a reference point if escalation is needed later.
When to Escalate
If your YP Network listing has not updated after an extended period and you believe something may have gone wrong, please reach out to our support team. When escalating, have the following ready:
- Your project name or business name as it appears in Search Atlas
- The incorrect phone number currently showing on YP Network
- The correct phone number that should appear
- The date the correction was originally submitted
