π Why the address locks after one edit
Google limits how often a business address can change. After one successful edit, Google may lock the address while it reviews the update. This reduces fake or frequently moved listings.
Search Atlas reads and writes your Google Business Profile through Google. If Google rejects an address change because the address is read-only, Search Atlas records that restriction and shows the Address row as Locked. The editor is not locked merely because Google has a restriction until that rejection is recorded. Search Atlas cannot override it, and an address that matches your website does not bypass it.
π What changed from earlier edits
In the past, an address that matched your website was often accepted right away. Google now reviews more address changes before they stay live. A matching website is still required, but it no longer lets you edit the address again immediately.
- Website match: The address on your site, your profile, and major citations should be identical.
- One clean change: Submit a single, complete address rather than several small corrections.
- Review window: While Google is reviewing, further edits stay blocked.
π οΈ What to do while the address is locked
- Stop submitting more address changes. Repeated attempts can extend the lock.
- Confirm the address on your website uses the same street, suite, city, state, and postal code you want on the profile.
- Check whether Google is asking you to re-verify the business, and complete any postcard, phone, email, or video check it shows.
- Wait for the review to finish before trying another edit. Locks are controlled by Google and do not have a fixed release time inside Search Atlas.
- If the business did not move, leave the current address in place until the lock clears.
π‘ How to edit safely after the lock clears
Prepare the final address before you edit it. Open the Business location editor, save the complete address, and then select Deploy All Changes once. Use Address line 2 for a suite, unit, or building only when it is part of the address; it does not need to appear on your website.
If you serve customers at their location and do not want a public storefront, use a service-area setup instead of changing the street address again. Hiding the address is safer than rotating locations.
