🗺️ What this issue means
If you cannot add a keyword to a local heatmap, the account does not have enough Local SEO Points left to scan the new keyword's grid. Each keyword is its own heatmap grid, and adding one spends one point per pin on that grid. Points already spent on other heatmaps in the same account reduce what is left for the new keyword.
📊 Why only some keywords can be added
Heatmap keywords are limited by your account's Local SEO Points, not by a fixed keyword count on the heatmap. Each keyword you add creates its own grid, and the cost is one point for every pin on that grid. The same pool is shared by every heatmap on the account, and recurring grids spend from it again each refresh cycle.
- There is no per-heatmap keyword cap. Adding a keyword fails when the new grid needs more Local SEO Points than the account has left. The message is "You have hit the limit by searching N times. Please upgrade your plan to search more." Removing a keyword does not return the points already used; points come back when the quota resets or the plan is increased.
- The same keyword can be added to a heatmap more than once, and each copy creates another grid and spends points again. Other heatmaps only matter because they draw from the same account-wide Local SEO Points pool. Within a single add, a repeated keyword or a blank entry is skipped, and a keyword longer than 255 characters is rejected.
- Your plan sets how many Local SEO Points the account can spend, shown in the platform as Local SEO Points (also called Heatmap Searches). One point is used per pin scanned, so a larger grid uses more points than a smaller one. The number of keywords you see does not tell you how many more you can add.
- You add keywords while setting up the heatmap for a business, and the grid is created as part of that save. Nothing has to be saved beforehand. Adding still fails if the account does not have enough Local SEO Points for the pins on the new grid.
- Blank entries are ignored, and typing the same keyword twice in one entry only saves it once. Extra spaces around a keyword are trimmed and the keyword still saves. The keyword must be 255 characters or fewer, and the add still needs enough Local SEO Points for the grid.
🛠️ How to add keywords successfully
- Open the heatmap you want to update and check how many keywords are already listed versus how many your plan allows.
- Remove a keyword you no longer need if the heatmap is full. Save the change, then add the new keyword.
- Confirm the business location and heatmap settings are complete before you add terms.
- Type one keyword at a time, without extra spaces, and avoid duplicates already on the heatmap.
- Save the heatmap and refresh the page to confirm the new keyword appears in the tracked list.
- If you need more than the current allowance, review your plan limits in the platform and upgrade if more heatmap keywords are required.
💡 If keywords still will not save
Confirm you are editing the correct business and heatmap. Check Local SEO Points under your plan usage to see how many are included, how many are used, and when they reset. If the add still fails, note the grid size (pins per keyword), how many keywords you tried to add, and the exact message shown. That lets support check the Local SEO Points balance on the account.
