A common question we receive is how to publish a website that was created on Wix, hosted on Namecheap, and connected to a GoDaddy domain. This article explains how these three services interact, what is technically possible, and how Search Atlas can help you manage and publish your website content.
⚠️ Important: How Wix Hosting Works
Before you begin, it is essential to understand a key limitation. Wix is a closed, all-in-one platform. When you build a site with Wix, it is automatically hosted on Wix's own servers. Wix does not allow you to export your website's files and upload them to a third-party host such as Namecheap.
This means you cannot directly transfer a Wix-built website to Namecheap hosting. What you can do is control which domain points to your published site.

- Wix — builds and hosts your website content.
- GoDaddy — where your domain name is registered.
- Namecheap — a hosting and domain provider you may want to use instead of Wix hosting.
Because Wix hosts its own sites, your practical options are either to keep your site on Wix and point your GoDaddy domain to it, or to rebuild the site on a platform that Namecheap can host.
✅ Option 1: Keep the Wix Site and Point Your GoDaddy Domain
If you want to keep your Wix website exactly as it is, you do not need Namecheap hosting at all. Instead, connect your GoDaddy domain to Wix:
- Log in to your Wix account and open the site you want to publish.
- Go to Settings and select Connect a Domain.
- Choose Connect a domain you already own and enter your GoDaddy domain.
- Wix will provide DNS records (name servers or pointing records).
- Log in to GoDaddy, open your domain's DNS settings, and update the records to match what Wix provided.
- Allow up to 48 hours for the DNS changes to propagate.
With this method, your Wix site is live under your GoDaddy domain and Namecheap is not required.
🛠️ Option 2: Rebuild the Site for Namecheap Hosting
If you specifically want your website hosted on Namecheap, you will need to rebuild the site outside of Wix, since Wix files cannot be migrated. You can:
- Build a new website using a platform whose files can be hosted anywhere (for example, a standard HTML/CSS site or a WordPress installation).
- Set up a hosting plan in your Namecheap account and upload your website files.
- Point your GoDaddy domain to Namecheap by updating the name servers in GoDaddy's DNS settings to the name servers provided by Namecheap.
- Wait for DNS propagation, then verify your site loads under your domain.

If you are connecting a Wix site to Search Atlas for content management and encounter a “Categories endpoint failed: meta-site not found” error, this usually means the Wix meta-site could not be located during sync. Confirm that you are connecting the correct Wix site and that the account has the proper permissions, then retry the connection.
