🔍 Why Two Heatmaps Are Appearing
If you notice two heatmaps displayed for what appears to be a single business, this is almost always caused by duplicate Google Business Profile (GBP) listings existing on Google's side — even if you only manage one profile inside Search Atlas.
Google can sometimes generate or retain more than one listing for the same business. Each listing carries its own review count, rating, and local ranking data. When Search Atlas pulls GBP data, it reflects exactly what Google returns, which means two separate listings will produce two separate heatmaps.
📋 Common Reasons Duplicate Listings Exist
- A previous owner or agency created a second listing that was never removed or merged.
- Google auto-generated a listing from public data such as directories or map contributions.
- A location migration or rebrand resulted in two active profiles for the same address.
- Multiple users claimed the business under different Google accounts at different times.
🛠️ How to Identify Which Listing Is the Duplicate
- Check the review count and rating displayed on each heatmap inside Search Atlas. The listing with fewer reviews or an older review date is typically the duplicate.
- Open Google Search or Google Maps and search for your business name and address. If two separate map pins or knowledge panels appear, you have confirmed duplicate listings on Google's end.
- Log in to Google Business Profile Manager (business.google.com) and review all locations linked to your account. A duplicate may be listed there as a separate, unverified, or unclaimed profile.
✅ How to Resolve the Duplicate on Google
Because the duplicate exists on Google's side, the resolution must be handled directly within Google Business Profile Manager. General steps include:
- Claim the duplicate listing in Google Business Profile Manager if it is currently unclaimed. This gives you control to manage or remove it.
- Once claimed, follow Google's standard process to remove or merge the duplicate profile. Google reviews such requests and the timeline for completion is determined by Google's own systems.
- If you cannot claim the duplicate because another party owns it, use the Suggest an edit option on Google Maps to flag the listing as a duplicate and request its removal.
