🔍 Why Your Google Business Profile URL May Be Rejected
Search Atlas requires a specific type of Google Business Profile (GBP) URL to connect your listing. Standard URLs copied from Google Search or Google Maps are often rejected because they do not contain the unique Customer ID (CID) that Search Atlas needs to identify and link your business profile.
This article explains what a valid GBP URL looks like and how to find your CID.
✅ What a Valid GBP URL Looks Like
Search Atlas accepts GBP URLs in the following format:
- CID-based URL:
https://www.google.com/maps?cid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
The CID is a long numeric identifier that is unique to your Google Business Profile listing. URLs from Google Search results, the Google Business dashboard, or standard Maps links usually do not include this CID and will fail validation.
🗺️ How to Find Your Business CID
- Open Google Maps in your browser (maps.google.com).
- Search for your business by name and location (for example, Pier 36 Seafood).
- Click on the correct business listing in the search results to open its info panel.
- Look at your browser's address bar. If you see a URL containing cid= followed by a long number, copy that full URL.
- If the address bar does not show a CID, try searching for your business from a different browser or device, as the CID parameter may appear more reliably outside of a logged-in Google account session.
Once you have the CID, construct your URL like this: https://www.google.com/maps?cid=YOUR_CID_HERE and use that in Search Atlas.
🚫 URL Formats That Will Not Work
The following URL types are commonly tried but will be rejected by Search Atlas:
- Google Search result URLs (e.g.,
https://www.google.com/search?q=pier+36+seafood) - Google Business Profile dashboard URLs (e.g.,
https://business.google.com/...) - Short Google Maps URLs (e.g.,
https://maps.app.goo.gl/...) - Standard Google Maps share links that include coordinates but no CID
🛠️ Adding Your GBP URL in Search Atlas
Once you have your CID-based URL (e.g., https://www.google.com/maps?cid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX), paste it into the GBP URL field within Search Atlas when prompted during your project setup or profile connection flow.
