✅ OTTO DNS Installation - Cloudflare API Token Tutorial

This tutorial provides the exact steps required to install OTTO Worker through Cloudflare using an API Token. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure proper configuration and connectivity.

🔑 Step 1: Open the API Tokens Page

  1. Log in to your Cloudflare account.
  2. Go to: https://dash.cloudflare.com/profile/api-tokens.
  3. Click Create Token.

⚙️ Step 2: Use the “Edit Cloudflare Workers” Template

  1. Find the template named 'Edit Cloudflare Workers'.
  2. Click Use Template.

The Edit Cloudflare Workers template covers Workers permissions only. OTTO DNS installation additionally requires DNS Edit access, which is NOT included in the template. Follow Step 3 to add it manually.

➕Step 3: Scope the Token

  1. In Permissions, click Add more → select Zone → DNS → Edit.
  2. In Account Resources, choose Include → Specific account and select your account.
  3. In Zone Resources, choose Include → Specific zone and select the domain you want to connect.

🔒 Security note: By scoping the token to a Specific zone (your chosen domain) and a Specific account, you are following least-privilege best practices. Search Atlas uses DNS Edit access exclusively to manage OTTO-created DNS records and does not modify other records on your zone.

📝 Step 4: Create and Copy the Token

  1. Click Continue to summary.

  2. Click Create Token.

  3. Copy the token value and save it securely (⚠️ it will only be shown once).

  4. Paste the token into the Cloudflare API Token field inside your Search Atlas dashboard under OTTO → Settings → DNS Integration, then click Connect. The field will validate the token and confirm the connection. If you cannot locate this field, contact Search Atlas support through the in-app chat and include your account email and the domain you are connecting.

✅ Step 5: Verify the Connection

  1. Return to your OTTO dashboard.
  2. A green Connected status next to your domain confirms the token was accepted.
  3. If you see an error, double-check that the Zone → DNS → Edit permission was added and that the correct zone was scoped in Step 3.

⚠️ Known behaviour: Some users may observe that changes deployed via Cloudflare DNS (e.g., updated title tags) appear briefly on the live site and then revert. If you experience this, contact support immediately so the team can investigate your specific configuration.

With your Cloudflare API Token configured, OTTO is connected to your DNS settings. Always store your tokens securely and verify the integration status in your OTTO dashboard to confirm everything is working as expected.
