Installing Linkgraph on your website requires a few key pieces of information. If you are missing some of those details, the installation process may stall or produce errors. This article walks you through what information is needed, where to find it, and how to complete the installation successfully.
📋 What You Need Before You Start
Before beginning the Linkgraph installation, make sure you have the following ready:
- Your website URL — the full domain where Linkgraph will be installed (e.g., https://www.yoursite.com).
- Access to your website's backend — either through a CMS (such as WordPress), a hosting control panel, or direct file access via FTP/SFTP.
- Your Search Atlas account credentials — you must be logged in to retrieve your unique Linkgraph tracking snippet.
- Your Linkgraph tracking snippet — found inside the Search Atlas platform (see steps below).
🗺️ How to Find Your Linkgraph Tracking Snippet
If you are unsure where to locate your tracking snippet, follow these steps inside Search Atlas:
- Log in to your Search Atlas account.
- In the left sidebar, click Website Studio (URL: /website-studio).
- Select the website you want to connect, or add a new one by clicking Import Site.
- Navigate to the Settings or Installation tab for that website.
- Copy the Linkgraph tracking snippet shown on screen. Keep this code ready for the next steps.
⚙️ How to Install the Linkgraph Snippet on Your Website
Once you have your tracking snippet, add it to your website using the method that matches your setup:
- WordPress: Go to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance → Theme Editor, and paste the snippet just before the closing
</head>tag in your theme's header.php file. Alternatively, use a plugin such as Insert Headers and Footers to paste the code without editing theme files directly. - Other CMS platforms (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, etc.): Go to your platform's site settings, find the Custom Code or Header Code section, and paste the snippet there.
- Custom or static HTML websites: Open your main HTML file (usually index.html), and paste the snippet just before the closing
</head>tag. Upload the updated file to your server.
🚨 Common Reasons Information May Be Missing
If you are stuck because key details are unavailable, here are the most common causes and how to resolve them:
- No website added in Search Atlas yet: You must first add your website inside Website Studio (What will we get done today?) before a tracking snippet is generated. Click Import Site, enter your domain, and save.
- No access to website backend: Contact your web developer or hosting provider to get FTP/SFTP credentials or CMS admin access. Linkgraph cannot be installed without backend access.
- Snippet not visible in the platform: Ensure your Search Atlas plan includes Linkgraph. If the installation tab is not visible, your current plan may not support this feature.
- Multiple websites and wrong site selected: Double-check that you have selected the correct website inside Website Studio before copying the snippet, as each site has a unique code.
✅ Verifying the Installation
After adding the snippet to your website, confirm the installation was successful:
- Return to Website Studio in Search Atlas.
- Open the settings for the relevant website.
- Look for a Connection Status or Verification indicator. A green status or a confirmation message means Linkgraph is installed correctly.
- If the status still shows as unverified, clear your browser cache, wait a few minutes, and refresh the page. It can take up to 24 hours for verification to complete after a fresh install.
💡 Tips for a Smooth Installation
- Always paste the snippet in the
<head>section of your site, not the footer, to ensure it loads correctly. - Do not modify the snippet code — copy and paste it exactly as shown in Search Atlas.
- If your site uses a tag manager (e.g., Google Tag Manager), you can paste the snippet there as a custom HTML tag firing on all pages.
