Overview

The Search Atlas API allows you to programmatically interact with your SEO audit data and integrate it into your own workflows or reporting tools. Common use cases include scheduling automated audits, pulling audit results into external dashboards, and chaining audit data with other tasks in your pipeline.

Setting up an automated SEO audit workflow

To build an automated SEO audit workflow with the Search Atlas API, follow these general steps:

  1. Obtain your API key. Log in to your Search Atlas account, navigate to your account or developer settings, and locate your API key. Keep this key secure and include it in the authorization header of every API request.
  2. Identify the project you want to audit. Each audit is tied to a specific project in your Search Atlas account. Note the project name or ID you intend to target with your API calls.
  3. Trigger an audit via the API. Use the appropriate API endpoint to initiate an SEO audit for your project. Pass your project identifier and any required parameters in the request body according to the API documentation.
  4. Poll for audit completion. Audits may take time to complete. Use the status endpoint (if available) to poll for completion, or set up a webhook if the API supports callback notifications when the audit finishes.
  5. Retrieve and process the results. Once the audit is complete, call the results endpoint to fetch the audit data. Parse the response in your preferred programming language and route the data into your dashboard, reporting tool, or downstream workflow.
  6. Schedule recurring audits. To automate audits on a schedule, use a task scheduler (such as cron, a cloud scheduler, or a workflow automation tool) to call the audit trigger endpoint at your desired frequency.

Troubleshooting common issues

If you encounter problems with your API workflow, check the following:

  • Confirm your API key is valid and included correctly in the request headers
  • Verify that the project name or ID in your request matches an existing project in your account
  • Review any error messages or HTTP status codes returned by the API — these usually indicate whether the issue is with authentication, request formatting, or account limits
  • Check whether your account plan includes API access and whether you have remaining API call quota
