Overview
On the Search Atlas Starter plan, you can connect one OTTO site at a time. If you want to activate OTTO on a different website, you can swap it — but it's important to understand how the switch works before proceeding, particularly around data retention and the 14-day rule.
What You Need to Know Before Switching
- One active OTTO site at a time: The Starter plan includes one OTTO site slot. Switching means deactivating your current site and activating a new one in its place.
- Data retention: When you deactivate a site and switch to a new one, the previously connected site's OTTO data (including configurations and optimizations applied to that domain) is not carried over to the new site. Your original site's data remains stored in your account and is not permanently deleted — if you switch back to that domain in the future, the previously gathered data will still be associated with it.
- The 14-day rule: Once you activate an OTTO site, a 14-day restriction period applies before you can switch to a different site again. This means after performing a site switch, you must wait 14 days before swapping your active OTTO site once more. This restriction exists at the plan level and applies to all Starter accounts.
- The new site starts fresh: When you connect a different domain, OTTO will begin its setup and data-gathering process from scratch for that domain. No optimizations from your previous site are transferred.
How to Switch Your Active OTTO Site
- Log in to your Search Atlas account and navigate to the OTTO section.
- Locate your currently active OTTO site and select the option to deactivate it.
- Once the site is deactivated, you will be able to connect a new domain to your OTTO slot.
- Enter the new domain and complete the OTTO onboarding setup for that site.
Before switching, confirm that you are outside the 14-day restriction window from your last site change. If you attempt to switch within 14 days of your previous activation, the platform will not allow the change until the restriction period has passed.
Common Questions
- Will I lose my original site's data when I switch? Your original site's stored OTTO data is retained in your account — it is not deleted. However, the new site starts fresh and does not inherit any configurations from the previous domain. If you later switch back to your original domain, your prior data will still be available.
- Does the 14-day rule apply to switching sites? Yes. After activating an OTTO site, you must wait 14 days before switching to a different site. This restriction applies at the Starter plan level for all accounts.
- Can I switch back to my original site later? Yes, you can switch back — subject to the 14-day restriction. When you do, the OTTO data previously associated with that domain will still be there.
