Topical Dominance measures how strongly your domain performs across specific topics compared to selected competitors. If competitors arenโ€™t configured correctly, your heatmaps, topic breakdowns, and dominance scores may appear incomplete or inaccurate.

๐Ÿ“ Where to Find Competitor Settings

Inside the dashboard:

Left Sidebar โ†’ Site Metrics โ†’ Site explorer โ†’ Topical Dominance

Once inside:

  1. Locate the Competitors panel on the left side

  2. Click + Edit competitor

  3. The competitor configuration modal will open

When the modal opens:

  1. Enter a competitorโ€™s root domain (e.g., domain.com)

  2. Click + Add competitor if adding multiple

  3. Include at least one competitor (required)

  4. Click Analyze Topical Dominance

โœ๏ธ How to Remove or Replace Competitors

Inside the competitor modal:

  • Click the ๐Ÿ—‘ trash icon next to any domain to remove it

  • Add a new domain

  • Click Analyze Topical Dominance again to refresh the data

You can update competitors at any time without losing your project.

If something looks off, hereโ€™s what may be happening:

Usually happens when:

  • Too many competitors are added at once

  • A domain is invalid or malformed

Topical Dominance recalculates comparative topic clusters every time competitors change. Large comparative runs may temporarily affect visualization until processing completes.

If needed:

  1. Remove all competitors

  2. Add them back incrementally (one at a time)

  3. Re-run analysis
