📘Google Says “This App Is Blocked” When Connecting Gmail to Campaigns

Why Google blocks direct Gmail connections and how to connect using SMTP/IMAP.

Updated over a month ago

When connecting a Gmail account to Authority → Campaigns, Google may block the connection and display the message:

“This app is blocked. This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account.”

This message comes directly from Google’s security system, not from Search Atlas.

🔐 Why Google Blocks This Connection

Google blocks direct OAuth connections when:

  • An app requests sensitive Gmail permissions

  • The app is not approved for direct OAuth access

  • Advanced or restricted security rules are enabled

This is a Google security requirement, not a platform error.
