🔗 Why Wildfire Shows Zero Backlinks

Last updated on Nov 07, 2026

🔗 What zero backlinks means

Wildfire shows zero backlinks when no inbound links have been matched and confirmed for your site yet. Approving outbound link suggestions does not create backlinks by itself. Those approved outlinks make you eligible to request or receive backlinks from other sites in the network after Wildfire matches and confirms them under the 2:1 ratio.

A count of zero does not always mean your placements failed. It means Wildfire has not delivered and confirmed an inbound link yet. Eligibility is based on verified placements inside Wildfire, not on a promise that every outbound link instantly returns a backlink.

✅ Check that your placements are valid

Review each outbound link suggestion for your site. Wildfire can only use a placement when all of the following are true:

  • The link was suggested and approved through the Wildfire interface, where OTTO manages the placement automatically.
  • The page is live and publicly reachable, with no login wall or block for crawlers.
  • The link is still on the page and points to the exact partner URL Wildfire assigned.
  • The link is a normal follow link placed contextually on the page.
  • The page has not been removed, redirected away, or replaced with different content.

If any placement fails these checks, it will not count toward the links you can receive. The donor page must remain active with OTTO properly integrated for Wildfire to maintain the placement.

⏳ Why delivery can take time

Even valid placements do not produce backlinks on a fixed schedule. Wildfire must match your site with a suitable partner, place the inbound link, and confirm it. Matching depends on available partner sites, your niche, and whether your own site meets publishing standards.

Common reasons the balance stays at zero:

  • Placements are still waiting to be crawled or verified.
  • Links were removed, OTTO was disconnected from the donor site, or the target page became unreachable.
  • Your site is new, has not been crawled for valid pages, or is not yet enrolled in Wildfire with OTTO installed.
  • No suitable partner is available for your topic yet.
  • The dashboard has not refreshed after a recent verification.

Links placed months ago only help if they are still live and were accepted in Wildfire. Old or unverified links do not build a balance in the background.

🛠️ What to do next

  1. Open Wildfire under Link Optimization and review the status of your Outlinks and pending outlink requests.
  2. Visit each live page and confirm the partner link is present, clickable, and unchanged.
  3. Correct any broken, missing, or nofollow links, then save the placement again if the product asks you to.
  4. Confirm your site is connected, indexed, and approved in your Search Atlas project.
  5. Refresh the Wildfire view after verification. Look for delivered inbound links, not only the outbound links you published.
  6. If verified placements have stayed at zero backlinks for a long time, contact support with your site URL and the placement pages.
